How was the moose hunt? We ran up to the wildhurst, just north of Finland, on Saturday night. It's a big game registration station and talked to the owner for awhile. the biggest one he registered was 57 1/2 inches. Lots of 50+ inch ones this year though. Today is the last day on MN moose hunt though.

Go to fleet farm and by a fly strip that farmers use to catch flys in a barn. Hand them when you leave, put more out when you go, problem solved, easy cleanup.
elf, I've used these things called Cluster Busters. (named because the flies are actually cluster flies) A guy in Canada makes them. I used them for about three years and no flies. I took them out of the window and one year later I have the fall fly issue again. They are not cheap but they work better than anything I've ever tried. http://www.powdertrap.com/
Came really close,25 ft. but no moose! Nice big bull came to the call first day.The leaves were still on after 3 killing frosts and still green.Bull came straight on and never got a killing shot! Adrenalene rush was very high but he never came close again.I can still hunt till Nov 15th and might head back up last week.Had perfect conditions,low wind for calling,snow on the ground for tracking and quiet walking.Moose are awsome animals,very large and agile!Nice that Minn. lets you guys have a shot at one time throphy.As the crow flies Iam only 63 miles ne of Grand Maris. great sledding if you can find gas.

Try to find the cloves in bulk to save money.
I have taken a handful of cloves and put them in a gallon jug to soak for two days...then pour the mix in a sprayer and spray the peaks of the home and eves where the buggers tend to climb in. The cloves will keep them from landing and eventually you will be fly free.
These pests look for warm shafts of heat as the nights cool in the fall. If you have openings with peaks that get hot during the day and escape in the evening...you might as well be putting a "welcome flies" sign on the front of your place. These same flies look for tree bark to hid under and anything that can give the protection from the winter which they realize is coming. Naturally aged wood along lake properties are magnets for flies, and they can squeeze into the tiniest cracks which can open and shut with the sunshine as wood naturally expands and contracts.
Try the cloves trick...even a few in a cup of hot water in the summer will drive them away.
I read somewhere else earlier this summer that flies don't like movement and will avoid areas which tend to trick the compound eyes they all possess. But danged if I can find where I read it....
