Ford 6.0 Diesel is a hunk of u know what!

I recently had the displeasure of owning (for a very short time) a Ford F-350 with the 6.0 diesel. I knew of its horrible reputation but bought it anyways because it came with a "great" warranty. Truck had 100,000 on it which supposedly was "just broken in".......yeah, right. Dealer was/is VERY reputable. What a roach!!!!!! In 1 month the following went bad on this 1 owner stock pile of #@*^: head gaskets (typical), turbo, egr cooler, oil pump.......over 6 grand worth of parts/labor! Since giving this "wonderful" truck back (thanks Dietch Sales!!!!!) I have researched this turd of a motor more and found out it is the laughing stock of the diesel world. I broke down and bought a 60,000 mile 2005 Dodge (was a Ford man, still have a 02' w/V10) 3500 with the Cummins and am VERY happy. This truck not only pulls circles around my buddies 6.0 but blows his stacks off in a drag race......and gets 21mpg on the highway @ 70mph!!!!! So, potential Ford diesel buyers, do yourself a favor and buy a older 7.3 if you must by a Ford. Personally after much research, hands down the Cummins and Duramax are where it's at. The new project "Scorpion" diesel Ford engines will not be made by International...........but made in Mexico........."Press 1 for english, 2 for Spanish"...........not in this life!!!!!!!!!

I have a 06 with only a oil leak problem. Uncle has an 05 with only a safety switch on the turbo issue. I have 49,000 on mine not sure about the uncles. Yes there have been bad one, but all of engines have had issues. I like mine and will have it for awhile

General Lee,

I have a neighbor that had an 03 or 04 that was a pile of junk, my father in law has an 05 for a farm truck and all it does it tow very heavy loads, no problems with the 05 what so ever. I heard that the later 6.0's are better. If a guy could have whatever he wants I would have a Cummins with an allison in a F-350 king ranch single rear wheel....or a 700 tripple yamaha in the new skidoo renegade chassis, I guess both are possible with the right custom shop and $$$$

I don't know about the new motor they are coming out with next year. Give it some time to prove itself. My work has three of the 6.0's and have been nothing but problems. I still like my 6.5 (with a little extra) and my dads 03 Dodge has been real good to him also. But be carefull what you say about those dodges also. I ain't gunna say where it was built but I will say where it WASN'T.............

Uhhhhhh......Cummins motor in my 05' is made in Indiana, the Hemi is built in Mehico. Per a Ford mechanic I know at Avis Ford in metro Detroit, the 6.0's like to eat the crank at 150,000 miles or so as well. Check out Consumer Reports on the 2003 and up Superduties with the 6.0, their feedback from owners is horrible. If I am going to shell out 60 g's on a new diesel truck, it won't be one with a "new" motor made south of the border. I'm just trying to give potential buyers of this engine (6.0) a head's up, do your own research and see what you come up with. It's not a mystery why there are so many 6.0's on the car lots (at least around here) and VERY few Cummins/Duramax's. As stated above, a Cummins w/Allison trans in a Superduty would be the whip! Have a great season guys, gotta go ride with the youngster. :)

It allways goes both ways. Met a guy that bought a dodge 08 or 09 diesel put 9,000 miles on it and parked it on the dealership lawn till they bought it back!

There are bad parts built everyday. If you have worked in an mfg environment you will know what I mean. I don't think anything is made bad on purpose, but you know what they say. "it happens"

The start of the end for the Six Liter Diesel was when they made an engineering change post-manufacturing. Who does that?! They screwed up bad with this one, which is a shame given the solid 7.3 and rest of the F-series line-up. I work at a Ford dealership and see our diesel guys working on 6 liters all day long. Meanwhile the 7.3's are in for a QLOF (quick lane lube oil and filter).

What about the 6.4 in between the 6 and scorpion engines? I had heard lightly that it was much better but haven't talked to our diesel guy about it. I want a diesel snowmobile! and boat.

That may be correct about an 05 but my fathers 03 clearly states made in mexico, I don't know which parts and don't really care. I just like the next guy would love to say buy american, support america. I do when I can but find me the stuff that is. That is all I was saying. Believe me I work for a company that does a lot of work for whirlpool and I hate what I am seeing going on there, and doing work for them. But if I don't I don't have a job either.......
