Four cylinder car engine gas smell?

I have a four cylinder that has a odor of raw gas when i park it in the garage. It is a 1991 Benz 190E four cylinder. Engine has about 130,000 miles. Any ideas where to start? Parking it outside for now. Don't want a fire ! Thanks for the help.

Look for a gas leak on the ground? Maybe the tank or fuel line.

Check the gas cap

Crawl under and look for a leakage in the tank, fuel lines, and filter.

Next lift the hood and check around the engine at all quick disconnect fittings. Look for spots around those fittings closely for evidence of leakage.

A vehicle of that age might have some rubber hoses going bad with the evaporative return system.
