Your dining options are shrinking in the Traverse City region after several restaurants decide to close up shop.

At least four restaurants -- two right near the heart of downtown Traverse City -- have all closed their doors for good.

The Catch Island Grill, the Fresh Water Lodge, Rusty's Pizza and Subs, and 4 Taste Fusion Bistro in Interlochen are no longer in business.

The owners of the closing restaurants we spoke with all cited the economy as one of the reasons they're shutting down. And it wasn't an easy decision.

"If it was any one thing I could probably have fixed it, but it was a lot of little things or a lot of things I just couldn't figure out," says Rusty Yarick, Owner of Rusty's Pizza and Subs.

The closings came as a surprise to many in the industry.

"You never really want to hear anything like this," says David Denison, Owner of Amical on Front Street. Amical is not among those closing.

"It's not good for the industry," he says. "It doesn't give any of the other restaurateurs any satisfaction what's so ever when one of their other restaurateurs decides to shutdown and close up shop."

Denison thinks most of the employees from the shuttered businesses will be able to find another job within the industry.

9&10's Ryan Raiche and Photojournalist Jeremy Erickson have the story.
