Frozen hood latch cable!!!

So I cant get under the hood on a 91 suburban, the latch is frozen. I need to get the hood open so I can jump it or charge the batt. It's blocking half of my garage door. & it's the spot where I park the enclosed trailer. Iv'e tried some knocker loose on the cable ends but it still wont get it. Any ideas?

Mine does it on my truck once in a while. Put the latch and then with a swift blow hit the hood with both your hands right up by where the hood folds over. If you do it there you wont put a dent in it. This might work for ya. Other wise try a hair dryer and see if you can get some heat in there. If you think it is froze because of the temps. But I think just your cable is hanging up a little.

Probably not frozen, but rusted. Once you get it open, lubricate the heck out of everything that moves to free it up. This will also prevent it from freezing if water happens to get in there and not evaporate with the heat of the motor.

Its a real treat to get it open if its rusted.

I have a dent in my 95 Tahoe hood because of this very situation.
I resorted to brute force and did some damage but when you are heading home at 2am and you left your lights on and your battery is dead and your hood wont open................. Any thing goes

Got it, the sun came out for a little today to soften things up. Still 12 degrees out there.
That storm we had here last monday was a slushy mix, so all along the hood & fender line filled in with slush & then froze solid. Well that was an easy fix, next on the list is to replace some rusted out brake lines on plow truck. How come this stuff always fails in the winter? Plow truck to big to pull into garage, have to do it on the ice. Grrrrrrrr!

you can lay on your back and reach up there from underneath with i stick and push the lever to get it open. if you don't want toreplace the cable you can wire something up so you can pull a wire by the grill toopen
