Garmin 60 csx and lithium batteries

I managed to get my garmin 60 csx mounted to my Fusion before the last trip but didn't get around to wiring it. With my voltage regulator now on the fritz I'm going to wait until I know for sure that's all fixed before I add anything else to the mix.

Has anyone used lithium batteries in their garmin unit? I've read it isn't recommended because lithiums may produce too much voltage (excess of 1.65)? We ride day and night and the rechargables I used died quickly at night due to the back light. I haven't tried regular aa's, they would probably last longer, but I was wondering if the lithiums would work better.

I use them in my Garmin Colorado. If recall correctly it says to use them in cold weather in the owners manual. I dont use my GPS for snowmobiling though.

There is a special selection for which type of battery you are using, alkaline or lithium, on the unit. Make sure you have the lithium selected. Also make sure your back light is going off when not in use. IF you have turn by turn directions on with a map, turn that off too, it will go off with a beep that depletes battery life as well. This stuff is all in the manual. If you need help, let me know since I can't pull the screens up in my head from memory. email me at james.cejka@va.gov and I will get to it before I check this again. I could walk you through it. I have had the same unit for three years now. Bought it for trail use. When it is cold, the lithium batteries don't last that long from what I have experienced. Usually two or three days of long rides. I would recommend carrying spare batteries just in case.

Thanks - a couple of days is ok with me for now, or at least until I know my sled's electrical bugs are all worked out.
