Garmin 60csx for fishing

I have a Garmin 60 csx that I may be lending to my Dad to use for a fishing trip in Canada. Main purpose will be to mark spots, help with not getting lost, etc.

Will the preinstalled base map be good enough for this? Also, does the base map always stay installed on the unit? I have installed and uninstalled snowmobile maps, city navigator maps, etc., but I am not sure if the basemap can be uninstalled and, if so, if I need to reinstall it.

It'll work fine. The base map always stays loaded and there is a section under map setup which you can turn on/off map overlays on the unit.

Had the same unit. I thought the base map was terrible. It was WELL worth the $80.00 to get the Topo card. Just make sure you get the one that covers the area that you will be using it. Once you have it, you'll see what I mean.
