So I'm thinking about doing a loop from Watersmeet up to Republic/Michigamme area, since I've never been that way we're looking for info on pitstops in that general area, thanks in advance!

There is gas (BP) at Koski Corners (intersection of 41 and M95) which I believe is accessed from a side trail off of 5 from the north. Just across M95 is the Corner Cafe, and 0.25 mile east on 41 is the Junction 95 Tavern & Grill.

The BP typically is out of gas, but they will direct you to the (True Value or Ace) hardware store about 4 miles south in South Republic. Just make sure you ride through during normal business hours.

Hmmm I've never had an issue when stopping there during the week for work. Another gas option in the area is the Michigamme Market about 10 miles west of Koski Corners on trail 8.

Summer Place in Republic. About my favorite breakfast in the U.P.

Now that's spooky!

Circa 1987-1989 there was a restaurant called "The Summer Place" on US-41, on the uphill side of the road about a mile north of the blinky traffic light at US-41 and Fifth Street in "Beautiful downtown Chassell, MI[SUP]1[/SUP].

Although they had a large prominent sign facing US-41, it was otherwise a little known, almost secret place, with dinner menu of maybe a half dozen made-to-order entrées, stunning upscale cuisine, white tablecloths and the works, nothing you'd expect to find in the ol' Copper Country —
except maybe the (click →) Miscowaubik Club?

Otherwise maybe not matched anywhere in da whole UP. Really at least 4-star cuisine. Memorable.
Then it just disappeared. :sorrow:

I have to wonder if there's any connection with the Summer Place in Republic? Same chef? A relative?
Or perhaps the folks in Republic just knew of the earlier one and liberated the name?

It's apparently collecting great reviews, though it doesn't seem to be trying to be in quite the same league.

i agree with the BP in Koski as being a good place to gas up. That is where I would go. However, it can be a little tricky if you don't know where you are going. Make sure you get advice before heading there. You could be low on gas by then and won't want to waste time driving around. As for gas in Republic...I haven't found that to be a reliable option.

The Summer Place was around for many years, Nelson's Summer Place I think was the official name of it. Burned to the ground in a fire around Christmas time if I remember correctly. Back when you could still smoke inside. The bar in the basement was the smoking lounge and evidently a hot butt from a cigar or cigarette was left in a trash can and started the fire if I remember correctly. That was many many brain cells ago.....

the Cozy Inn on trail 8, west of Michigamme in Nestoria...home cookin and known for great burgers.......there is a sign on trail 8
