As some of you already know and now all of you will, Tues. Dec. 7th we had to put down a beloved member of our family our German Shorthair Pointer Sadie, she was 11 years old and had liver cancer. My wife Kelly who married into the dog, and who never liked dogs fell totally and completely in love with her and is beside herself with grief. So now we are looking for another 1possibly 2 puppies or rescue dogs if any one knows of any please put a post on here, I do have a line on a couple of rescue dogs 1 in Mi and 1 in Ohio, the only catch is they must get along with a cat. Thanks

So sorry Bradzoo. That is so tough and then at Christmas time too. They sure are fur-covered, four-legged blessings with hearts so big their bodies can barely hold them. God bless you and Kelly and I pray that you feel lots of love and peace from all the memories to hold you over. I know you'll find just the right dogs & it will work out with kitty too! To rescue an animal is a wonderful thing & such a big deal as there are so many that just need to be loved & to have a good, permanent home. Then they get to see that goodness does exist & best of all they get to experience it & give it back to us beyond what we can ever give to them. Take care & give each other a hug. Talk about all the good stuff that Sadie brought about & give kitty lots of squeezes!

My wife has been crying since Tues. I told her the only thing that will help is another dog, it won't be the same but it will give her something to think about. I really like Shorthairs, over the coarse of the last 30 years I've had 5 and 2 Weimeriners, I like Weims and would take one if I could find a hunting strain like I had before. Thanks again

That's a beautiful looking family member! I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been there a couple times and it's very difficult. A new dog will help the healing process.

1st - hugs to you and you wife, I know exactly how you feel.
2nd - I totally agree with Skidooski. After putting down the last two boxers I had I initally told myself I was going to wait to get another one. BOTH times I ended up getting a new pup within a week. They were not "replaced" but it helped the grieving process immensley.
I love this poem and I'd like to share it... it brings a tear to my eye everytime I read it...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Thanks Cat Woman, I can't let my wife read it yet but I will

We are thinking about going to look at and possibly get the 1 rescue dog in Ohio tomorrow.

American Brittany Rescue

I don't know what kind of rescue dog you were looking for, but this organization is top-notch. The majority of dogs are pure bred Britts with at least minor detail to their history. They are all neutered/spayed and come micro-chipped. You'll pay close to the same amount for these rescue dogs as you will for a pup, but it is a noble cause and you won't be dissappointed I know we weren't. We got our last dog, Bentley through them and he has been a part of the family from day one. They have dogs all over the U.S. and many in the IL-MI-WI area. Check it out and see what you think, and drop a PM if you have any questions.

Your welcome guys, it is a pleasure sharing.

Good luck finding your next dog. It may be overwhelming at first but your heart will be melted by the time you get him/her home. :)

P.S. you'll have to post pics!

Bradzoo,

Sorry to hear about your loss. Just remember you gave her a good life and she knew that to the end.

I had to put down one of my dogs in July and it was one of the hardest things I had ever done. It was especially hard because it was my first time.

Kudo's for you looking into adopting a dog. Sammy was a 6 year old dog that was about to be put down before I found him. Turned out to be one great dog with a heart of gold.
