I don't know if this is old news or not, but I just found the stepper motors to fix your GM spedometer on ebay for $6.50. Type in part # x25-168 and they will pop up. Lot cheaper than a new cluster!!

I have this problem with my suburban and have just put off fixing due to the high numbers I was hearing to repair.
So, is ths part you reference an easy fix from an install perspective? Tearing apart the dash is not something I want to tackle.
If the fix is as cheap as you say, I owe you a lot of beers!

If you have good soldering skills and some basic know how its a pretty easy fix. The cluster is not bad to pull out, just a matter of popping the face panel off the dash and four bolts and the cluster is in your hand. Then you halve to disasemble the cluster. If you don't halve good soldering skills an knowlage of how to work with printed circuit bords, I would not suggest atempting on your own. You could still save a few bucks by buying the part, removing the cluster, and taking it to somebody to halve the motor installed.

not trying to advertise for anyone but a buddy of mine works a d&d instruments in minneapolis.

I think they charge $199 or so to redo the cluster if you don't have the mechanical knowledge. alot more than $6.50 but a good option vs taking it to the dealer. I think he told me they are $499 at a GM dealer but I'm not sure.
