A while ago I submitted a post with a question on a go pro and someone suggested a photo/video editing program to have when compiling recordings, was hoping whoever that was would respond again or if someone knows of this also please respond, Thanks!

I think that was me. What I recommended is the "PowerDirector 16 Ultra" by Cyberlink. I just upgraded to the latest edition this past week at Best Buy where they have it on sale for 40% off. It can be a challenge at first but once you master it it's great program to edit your GoPro video. I don't have anything from this year yet but here's an older clip of mine showing what PowerDirector can do with your video.

Thank you both! a while ago a buddy of mine compiled pictures onto a dvd with special effects and music and it was pretty cool. This is my first go around with a go pro camera and when we go up we put on between 200 - 300 miles a day and even though it is the same scenery each year we never get tired of it. I'm not very computer savy so hopefully it is something I will be able to figure out without much frustration. I just thought it would be cool to make a dvd once again except with video as well. Again I thank you both for the recommendation and I will check out the you tube link, Much appreciated!

the free download is it a trial version that would expire or is it something that recognizes the go pro camera that you are using? sorry if stupid question, this is just all new to me

After doing more looking it actually may be Quik desktop. https://shop.gopro.com/softwareandapp/quik-%7C-desktop/Quik-Desktop.html

I have to admit that I'm not sure if this new one expires or not. I have the old GoPro Studio and it does not expire. GoPro Studio does recognize the camera and any associated files on it and asks if you want to export the files to the computer and has them ready for editing. I would imagine that this new Quik Desktop does the same features.

If there is a free program out there you might want to start out with that rather than spending for an advanced one. If it's something you enjoy doing and want more capability then go with a more advanced package. It's whatever you're comfortable with.

was thinking the same, basically looking for a way to edit and format video and picture onto dvd and overlay music over it as well, not that I don't want to pay for a program and will probably either just do so or will end up eventually, some of those trials you down load, forget about it being a trial and you get stuck with a charge , and not that go-pro's program isn't good I'm sure, but if I'm going to buy one I will probably go with the one you recommended as I surfed around the link you sent. I will first check out the go-pro program before I do anything, as I said not very computer savy so the easier the better but if I'm going to have to buy one I do like the one you suggested and again Thank You.

Thank you tracker, dont laugh but finally figured out how to view the video from the go-pro on my laptop, again not too computer savy so the easier the better, I normally only use my laptop for diagnostic software at my shop, i got camera mount on place on my helmet and played around a little with mounts and aiming, want to do forward video shooting so will have to hope I have pointed correctly. I am leaving for the U.P. on saturday and supposed to get a bit of snow up there sunday night into monday so hopefully I can get some clear video part of sunday, Thank you all again, I really appreciate everyone's input!

I take it you laptop has movie maker on it then...use that I would first....there are some tricks for a gopro that can simplify things...one is take the SD card you save films to in gopro and put in a regular camera or insert a regular picture...not a video...and when downloading into puter have it erase all films but leave that one picture in there....it will then read that SD card better and faster and eliminate some programing glitches....I prefer my older gopro to the new one that's wifi....in the sticky section I think I provided step by step instructions on how to use movie maker if needed...I will try to find the link...go luck and remember...shorter films people like better...I put some to where the sled movement and video match the music which I thought was way cool but I don't think people like it as much as motor sound....don't know why...heres and example....have fun with it

ok so.... took some go-pro video and have a question, while playing back some of the video some of them at points get slow and not sure quite how to describe but skippy, not quite sure if it is my lap top or the go-pro, until now I have only used the laptop for shop diagnostic use, it is a lennovo think pad, seeing that some of the videos play fine so I'm doubting it is the lap top but maybe, and it wasn't very cold out to think that may have affected it. Its incredible how clear the video is and how wide of a view it gives, very happy with results other than small problem I am having on a few videos, I am using a session 5 model

its is more than likely the laptop...heres why...if its has an AMD processor and not INTEL along with anything other than an NVIDIA GRAPHICS card it will be herky jerky playback....that and your RAM....I believe that laptop is like 8 years old right? heres how to check....you install CCLEANER from FILEHIPPO.com and after you start it up and register the free one....at the top it lists your computer specs....list them here and I might be able to speed it up and update it so it will play good...also in CCLEANER there is a SOFTWARE checker...run that and update any software it says to...I would clean it also...that can slow you down too...it basically puts all the books back into the library...each time you do something the puter opens a book....8 years later with no CCLEANING there are 100 million books open that it has to look thru all the time....if you want something that actually works ask me before buying or google the MIRA SUPER COMPUTER....its a my work and it runs INTEL with NVIDIA card....thousands of them....why johnny? because those things work the best together with no herky jerky....all other combos are cheap or just get by and wont suffice IMO...hope this helps...even the older super computer BLUE GENE used INTEL with NVIDIA....look up specs of both for clues as to what works good with what before buying in future....no dig....Lenovo think pads were good in the day

Thank you Tracker, yes my think pad is older computer but wanted something durable since I am using in a shop and this is what was recommended to me, again...not very computer savy and in all honesty cant stand computers, I don't game, don't have one at home either other than my phone and don't even use a scratch of what it is capable of, I will run a cleaner on my laptop and I take it from what you have said due to its age and processing capabilities may not the best thing to use or may not be able to create video and overlay with music. I will run what you suggested and see what happens. Otherwise if it doesn't help will have to look into another laptop.

with an older computer you can turn down the resolution of the films you make or output...I turned my go-pro down so an older computer has an easier time....try that...it still looks really good...heres one with an old laptop and movie maker with resolution turned down

It looks like that video ("Ridin' with The "REGULATORS") proved your point re lower resolution.

Of course it also demonstrated the height of trail ridin' etiquette: Plant yer azz squarely in the middle of the trail, weaving from side to side in attempt to deny the trailing sled an opportunity to pass … 'til he finally succeeds in passing … on the right. Brilliant! Should be a must-view in Sleddin' 101; teach them [sic] newbies how ta do it right! :encouragement:

(Go ahead, now beat me up fer tellin' it how it izz! :beaten:)
