I think that was me. What I recommended is the "PowerDirector 16 Ultra" by Cyberlink. I just upgraded to the latest edition this past week at Best Buy where they have it on sale for 40% off. It can be a challenge at first but once you master it it's great program to edit your GoPro video. I don't have anything from this year yet but here's an older clip of mine showing what PowerDirector can do with your video.

If you don't want to pay for software you can download GoPro Studio for free. It actually looks like they call it Fusion Studio now.

the free download is it a trial version that would expire or is it something that recognizes the go pro camera that you are using? sorry if stupid question, this is just all new to me
If there is a free program out there you might want to start out with that rather than spending for an advanced one. If it's something you enjoy doing and want more capability then go with a more advanced package. It's whatever you're comfortable with.
I use movie maker...but here is a list of the top current ones...looks like cyberlink I might choose now....and word to the wise....I ALWAYS download anything from filehippo https://filehippo.com/ all programs from here have no bloatware attached...every tech gets programs from here...I also recommend CCLEANER to keep you puter in good shapes

all my films are with movie maker 2012....still works good....but cyberlink might be better
ok so.... took some go-pro video and have a question, while playing back some of the video some of them at points get slow and not sure quite how to describe but skippy, not quite sure if it is my lap top or the go-pro, until now I have only used the laptop for shop diagnostic use, it is a lennovo think pad, seeing that some of the videos play fine so I'm doubting it is the lap top but maybe, and it wasn't very cold out to think that may have affected it. Its incredible how clear the video is and how wide of a view it gives, very happy with results other than small problem I am having on a few videos, I am using a session 5 model
Thank you Tracker, yes my think pad is older computer but wanted something durable since I am using in a shop and this is what was recommended to me, again...not very computer savy and in all honesty cant stand computers, I don't game, don't have one at home either other than my phone and don't even use a scratch of what it is capable of, I will run a cleaner on my laptop and I take it from what you have said due to its age and processing capabilities may not the best thing to use or may not be able to create video and overlay with music. I will run what you suggested and see what happens. Otherwise if it doesn't help will have to look into another laptop.
It looks like that video ("Ridin' with The "REGULATORS") proved your point re lower resolution.with an older computer you can turn down the resolution of the films you make or output...I turned my go-pro down so an older computer has an easier time....try that...it still looks really good...heres one with an old laptop and movie maker with resolution turned down …
