This is a past due report but wanted to re-cap our trip from this past weekend:
Friday 2/1...Left Bergland and took 13 to Rockland which was good to very good. Much better than reported.
Continued on the 13 loop from Greenland to Twin Lakes and it was awesome...dumping snow and smooth trails.
Lunch at Omer's which was great as we had the place to ourselves and the owners/staff are good people.
Continued on 3 which was OK with some stutter bumps but knowing the amount of traffic that trail gets we were pleased.
Took 122 to 124 to Gay...all great trails. A few pops in Gay and then we continued on 133, to 132 to 135 and into Copper Harbor.
All trails were good to excellent especially when we caught the groomer out of LLB.
A great meal at the Mariner, some cocktails at Zik's and decent sleep got us ready for day 2.
Saturday 2/2...Trail out to High Rock was smooth, Eagle Harbor/River loop had us seeing first tracks, 3 to Calumet was great and 17 to the bridge was in great shape as well. Never a bad thing to say about the Freda Loop and 3 back to Omer's/Twin Lakes was good.
From there it was was 3 back thru Mass & Rockland and 13 back towards Bergland and the Bay Bar but we took the forest roads which were bumped up pretty good. Riding on Lake Gogebic was very smooth but a number of us almost took out a coyote!
Saw Tommy at Fishtales before heading a few houses down to the place we were renting.
Sunday 2/3...Took 1S to Marenisco which was very good, then 2W towards Wakefield which was a 10 since we caught the groomer coming back into Marenisco then it was 8E back to the hoop...probably was the best trail we rode all weekend! Took 1N to the Konteka for lunch and that too was in good shape. Continued on 1 to Lake of the Clouds, 11S to 102 and back to Bergland...all trails were great and in the best shape we've seen in years.
I will note, we probably saw less sleds on the trails and in the bars/restaurants on this trip then ever before. Sure does help when other areas have snow and we can spread the traffic out! All of the snowmobile clubs deserve a huge pat on the back or bro hug...even Gogebic which is starting to turn things around. Last but not least a big thanks to Mark and his crew at Timberline for those that rented. Top notch service and a great place to deal with!
