Just returned from a few days riding, home base was the root cellar on lake Gogebic managed 620 miles in 2 1/2 days, upon arrival was informed that trail 1 and 13 were both closed on either side of the lake due to logging did not try so stuck to taking lake. Day one trail 102 over to wakefield and 11 up through porcupine mtn state park was good to excellent, trail 107 to lake of the clouds slightly wash board until got to the park roads. from there trail 1 to 12 down to Greenland were good to excellent then took 13 loop and 3 up to krupps and then back down 3 trails were good to excellent. once on 13 south outside of rockland trails deteriorated fast! Wash board was a serious understatement in some areas the closer to bergland the worse the trail got, ran into groomer close to getting back and for a short stretch trails went from bad to excellent. Day two took 13 back up and trails were groomed and in very good shape except for a short stretch just before rockland where the trail goes up narrow hill. trail 3 north to Parkview was good to excellent, after Parkview was washboard all the way to Houghton, once past the bridge and through town trails 17 and 3 were good to excellent, snow coming down very heavily, rode to phoenix filled up and took 124 across to gay, we were first ones on trail with about 8 or so inches of fresh snow on it, awesome ride. took 122 from gay down to trail 3 and came back in backside of Houghton, trail was good, back down 3 from south side of bridge to Parkview still washboard, one of our group broke a rear suspension arm. took 3 to 13 and back down and once within 15 miles of bergland trails back to bad washboard. ran into heavy freezing precip which made travel slow and miserable. day 3 late start due to freezing precip, took 8 down to ewen trail was good to excellent but snow was getting thinner the further east you went, took 3 up to rockland trail was good to excellent, took 3 up did Freda loop trail was at this point good to excellent as well as the loop, back down 3 to 13 and home freezing precip again. North of the bridge had a lot more snow than south and as you got further south to bergland , no fault to the groomers, the snow needs replenishing, snow on trail more like ice crystals than snow and good once groomer goes through but very loose and greasy even the next morning until you got near and north of rockland.
