good years for Polaris IQ spindles

What year did the Polaris IQ spindles improve? Just asking since I have an 06 Fusion and I came across a set of 07 spindles for cheap. If I remember right, the years to buy were 08 and beyond. I probably wouldn't bother unless I came across a set cheap like this. With the bergstrom setup, it turns easier but still more effort than it should, although I'm used to it.

I have the 06' IQ switchback. I put the 11' Assault spindles on and its definitely improved. 07' I think is questionable.

I had '06 700 fusion, also had '08 700 IQ. still have '07 600 IQ. I went thru the same thing(s) with my '06=hard steer and pushed. the very 1st thing you want to do is upgrade skis.the '07 and later had the mount hole further back than 06=this different pivot point makes a big diff!! fyi=I think Holtz racing makes spindles to help with this, but like I said=def try the skis 1st!!

I just looked into it. Probably wouldnt have bothered but i drove bud's 07 and steering was noticeably easier. Looks like in 07 the spindles are the same but the skis are different. Then in 08 they changed the spindles also. I probably wont do anything about it since its a pricey upgrade for an old sled unless i came across some cheap used parts. Best i can tell, the difference in the 07 skis is the mounting position moved a little.

Doesn't cost anything to shorten the limiter strap about a 1/2 inch (.5")
Makes the steering easier and can be undone if not to your liking

06 new body and spindles were ARM strong.

07 new skis to help some but not that big a difference....meantime holtz comes out with a better design spindle (I bought them and changed mine) and Polaris steals design and makes improved spindle design beginning in 08.

No reason to fool with the 07 spindles.

IMO-I would start with the ski. See if you can find a pair of 07 or newer online or this summer.

I went the Bergstrom way and like it. My skis are a little beat up but will look for a 07 pair when the time comes to replace.

Is it possible to move the mounting position on the stock skis?

You can drill a new mounting hole in the side of ski. Try to duplicate the position of the '07 you rode. I got the idea after noticing it on a friend's '07 IQ LX 600. You will have to notch the rubber boot so it fits on the ski. I have drilled a new hole on three sleds and it works. I believe it centers the weight on the carbide better. I also use Stud Boy 9" shaper bars. This only costs a little bit of time.

Yeah, I will keep my eyes out for a set. I've put 5500 miles on my Fusion, so the steering effort is not that big of a deal. But I was shocked how much easier the 07 turned - I should have stayed off that sled! I do have Bergstroms with the shims and ski spacers, which did help some. Otherwise I might try what Drewma said and try to duplicate what is on the 07.

I found a used set of HRP/Holz spindles on another site for sale. Guy wants $200 for them. Supposedly in perfect shape (although I supposed the only thing wrong with them is they could be dinged up, which I wouldn't care about). They are $300 new. Just curious if anyone tried these spindles and if they helped, or if it is more of a ski issue (or a ski and spindle issue). I don't know what a fair price is for these either.

The more I think about it, the more leery I am about drilling a new mounting hole in a ski on a sled I'll be riding through the woods on.

One more question: I see a lot of Polaris grabber skis for sale. Would these help? I am not sure how they compare to the newer IQ skis that are supposed to be better.

I was Leery also about drilling holes. My problem is that I have 5 2006 Polaris sleds in the family fleet. Did not feel like spending $1K plus on spindles and have 5 sets laying around worthless. If I had to do it over I would start with the '07 ski since my '06 skis would have some resale value. I can tell you two of the sleds have been riden pretty hard for about 4000 miles total with zero issues with altered, hole remounted skis.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to take a look at see what it looks like. I've looked around a little for skis, and there is surprisingly few out there...

I bought them for two sleds...ouch...but they did improve the steering and then I put Powder Pros on ....whole different sled.

Looking more into this, it looks like some change the spindles, some change the skis (seems most often to slydogs), and some do both. Without looking too hard, lookt like you can pick up a used set of spindles, either 08+ Polaris or Holz, for around $200 or so, while the slydogs are $325+. I haven't found any used 2007+ IQ skis yet. So I think what I might try to do is pick up used spindles and then try to find a cheap pair of 07+ skis, or just see about drilling a new bolt.

None of this was an issue for me until I rode by buddy's newer for a while through the twisties!

View attachment 39322 View attachment 39321 Are these the right spindles? I found them on another site - they are supposed to be off an 08 Dragon, but I am not sure how to tell. They do look different than mine. His ask seems a little high but I'd like to know they are the ones I want before making an offer. Thanks.
