Would like some info on who has a gps mounted on their sled and what to look for and beware of. Want to put it on with velcro so I can take it off when I want to easily. What brands etc. thanks
I have had a gps mounted on my sled for a few years. I would look at somthing other than velcro to mount it, I have a RAM mount and it works great. I have a Garmin 60CSx and I really like it. Another GPS to check out would be the Nuvi 500 or 550.
Garmin 60csx is what i use. yes waterproof and shockproof. then get one of these (see link) to mount it. It's a quick release set-up that allows you to take it off with the push of a button. If your putting it on a sled with a battery i can tell you how to set up a power soure so it can run off the sleds power all day.
I have been riding with my Magellan Sport Track for 10 years. I also use a RAM mount. I had to secure the GPS plastic mount at the bottom with a ziplock where it locked in to keep the GPS from bouncing out when I would catch air.
