Grease on recoil

Put a new spring in the recoil yesterday it had some old dried up grease on the back side of it. is there a "certain" type of grease to put on the back side of the plastic rope container? or does it really need to have it there? don't want anything thats going to dry up again or freeze to cause the recoil to stick.

any cold weather grease should be fine, use sparingly though. I use spray white grease(lithium) to penetrate in the moving parts, then it thickens up a bit
