Local TV in Rhinelander,WI NBC just started to talk about a Greenland Block & something about pushing weather approaching from East instead of West for the Northwoods. Overall what is a Greenland Block & how does it affect the WI Northwoods & UPMI?

A Greenland block is a blocking pattern in the atmosphere that is located near Greenland. Blocking patterns typically block the normal progression of jetstream winds from west to east and usually cause large buckles north and south to develop in the pattern upstream of the block. At times, if the block is big enough and set up in a certain way, they can cause the weather systems in the mid-latitudes to travel in an easterly direction, rather than westerly.

I don't too much blocking in Greenland to occur and do not see a situation where the weather for the WI Northwoods and UP will be coming in from the east. We may have some east winds later Monday into Tuesday, but the weather systems will still be traveling with a westerly component.
