Gunflint trail trip—info request

I’m thinking about taking a 3-4 day trip up the Gunflint trail from the Two Harbors area and I’ve never been up that way. We might do a back pack trip, or just find somewhere central to stay and ride out from. How are the trails and how is the signage? Any recommendations on places to stay/eat along the way? Any recommended sights to see/avoid? Thanks in advance!

Trails are great all over - really depends if you are going over a weekend or mid-week. Weekend get reservations going now. Mid-week you can find a place to stay almost anywhere. How many miles in a day do you ride? That really would dictate where you stay and where to centrally locate if not back packing it.

Trails up there are excellent now. My son and I rode the NSST from Finland to Lutsen yesterday and for a Sunday it was excellent. Tons of snow.

We do that trip every year. Two Harbors to Hungry Jacks up on the Gunflint or Two Harbors out to Grand Portage (Casino) Either is a nice one day ride. Make sure you stop at the Trestle Inn and the Knotted Pine, both are icons of the area and can be made in the same day ride. (both have gas)

To add to GTL - if leaving from Two Harbors, Hungry Jack would be a good destination. From there if you stayed 2 nights you could make the run to Grand Portage and back in a day with time to explore, lots to see if you take the time. The last 20 miles and the surrounding trails into Grand Portage will be awesome. The first 10 off the Gunflint will be good also. The 10th to 20th mile section off the Gunflint might be a challenge if they haven’t gotten through there, but it’s worth pushing through if they haven’t groomed it yet (3 weeks ago they had not).

X2 on what xcr440 says. We left our truck and trailer there for three nights last year while we road to Grand Portage and then Tower and back. It's nice sized and right off the road.
