Can't really tell you anything to help, but I have to say that is one cool picture...

The guy on the bike recently passed away and this is a friends father. She found the picture while going through his belongings. She remembered the bike vaguely as a little girl. She asked me to find her more info.

looks like a 46 knuckle head to me

I'm in total agreement with nhra. This has to be a 46 FL knucklehead. According to an historic Harley catalog I have anyway. Great picture. RIP. With respect.

I'm pretty certain it's not a '46 and most likely a 1930 something.

In fact in may be a '36 which I think is the first year of the knucklehead.
