The snow dances are working and just in the nick of time before the long weekend!! Much of the county to the north received a fresh 4-5" of snow last night pushing us into good condition!! It is currently snowing a light wet snow as we report. The southern area reported to have received about an inch. The snow we received is a wet, heavy snow and will be great to add on to your base and pack down as it freezes! A groomer is out in the Round Lake/Spider Lake/Lost Land Lake area right now checking the status. Many more will go out tonight when the temps drop and this wet heavy snow freezes and they can pack it down. This snow has taken care of much of the exposed rock on corners and those "snirty" trails near the roads. The Chippewa Flowage reports to be in great condition!
Speaking of lakes all lakes in the county are reported to be staked aside from LCO. We understand that there is excitement to ride this lake but safety is first...we WILL report when there is a change! It's been years since it has frozen over this late into the season, unsure of all of the reasoning behind the late freeze and the complications that are arising to make it safe, sounds as if there are a few. All lakes are different have different build to them so they can not all be treated as the same. Not staking this lake it is not something any one of these volunteers and businesses want but it’s not safe, it’s that simple and that is all that is important. As you have seen in updates, they are checking the ice daily and it is progressing but slowly. Please do not ride on lakes NOT STAKED for your safety and the lakes that are staked, please stay close to the marked trail to avoid any hazards i.e. heaves, slush, plowed fish shanty roads, stumps, rocks, etc.
Over the next few days we should continue to see light snow fall and the temps will slowly drop firming everything up and making for a great ride!
Surrounding Counties: Bayfield, Washburn, Douglas open, Barron partially open, Rusk, Price and Ashland closed.
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and clubs and thank you to all of you for choosing Sawyer County as your riding destination!
