Hayward to Eagle River

Does anyone have a route recommendation for riding between Hayward and Eagle River? My biggest concern is for when I get to Park Falls.....what route is best? Do I go through Park Falls and Minoqua or do I cut up through Butternut and over to Mercer to avoid those towns. Any help is appreciated.

BTW, I realize conditions are not great right now but anticipating this big storm to clean that up.

We always took Tuscobia trail when we went between Hayward and Minocqua. Latest storm track shows more snow toward the Minocqua area than Mercer. Even less in Hayward

Not sure this storm will help Hayward much just not in main track. PM venturenorth he just returned RT St Germain to Hayward but I can tell you he didn't like Mercer much & paid the price!.... Bahaha...

I realize Hayward isn't getting hit much by this storm but that is where my cabin/sleds are located. Besides, I rode that area this past weekend and know I'll have no problem getting to the Tuscobia. They are calling for 2-4" tomorrow so that will help plenty as they have more snow currently then parts of Eastern Wisconsin.

So given the path of the storm, I should stay on the Tuscobia through Park Falls? Does it go all the way to Minoqua?

Tuscobia stops in Park Falls. You can do that, come out the east side, or you can duck off the Tuscobia early and head down to Fifield and go east from there on a main corridor. In my experience, ducking to Fifield is cleaner and easier, less in town rding, and you can gas up in Fifield just as easily as Park Falls. Depending on where you are leaving Hayward, you probably want to gas up going through Winter, or you may not make it. Winter is the last gas before Park Falls/Fifield.

As others have posted the Tuscobia stops in Park Falls. You can choose to go thru Park Falls (easy when there's snow on the roads) and continue east along the northern edge of Price Cty.on TR111 until you get to the Pike Lake Chain area. Then hit Corridor 10 on the south end of the Chain by Musky Jacks. Corridor 10 will take you all the way to Minocqua. Take you pick of several routes from there to ER.

XCR440's way is the best however. Just west of Park Falls drop south on Corridor 21 heading to Fifield. I HATE the gas place in Fifield because they are anti sledders but what do you do? Continue east through Fifield on Corridor 10 all the way to Minocqua.

PM me if you'd like more options. I'd be happy to help.

Hayward trails are junk right now, we need a solid 6" of firm snow to bring them back to life. We rode Sunday and we had a hard time keeping the sleds cool with the concrete snow.

I'm aware of the conditions in Hayward as I rode there last weekend as well. However the area is under a weather alert for snow right now. 3-5" and that area will be fine.

Thank you! The Fifield tips looks promising

We did that trip from Minocqua to Hayward three weeks ago, stayed at deerfoot and rode back the next day. Not a bad ride, the snow in hayward was about the same as Minocqua, fairly low.
We took trail 10 to Park Falls then hit the Tuscobia to the flowage. It's a descent ride. I would recommend heading north through Cable and over on 8, more snow but definitely a longer ride. You can always head on Tuscobia to Park Falls and then head north also. Of course the best route depends on where you cabin is located in Hayward. My place is right by Anglers Haven. Mercer was definitely rough when I was there but Manitowash was groomed very nice.
The Fifield gas station actually worked out well for us, easy to access and we had no problems.

Anti-sledders? Never had an issue in there, people seemed friendly and willing to chat when we were warming up a couple years back. In fact I'm pretty sure the owner was there one of my stops last year, and was as cordial as anyone.

My cabin is located 7 miles from Deerfoot so I will be dropping down the flowage to the Dam, running the roads to the Tuscobia and then down to Park Falls. I'm currently thinking of running up through Butternut and over to Mercer as I know that route. Then on to Manitowash and down to Eagle River.

I'm saving the Northern route through Clam Lake on the way home. Trying to meet some friends early in the day Thursday so we can ride with them. Just waiting on this storm to hit.....

Its a good ride and I would like to have a "redo" of the trip. We had 13 riders, its was -10 and one of our guys wrecked on the way home. We also had 2 sleds go down, we bring backups, even before we got out of Minocqua! So it took us a long time to make the trip over and back. If they get the snow it will be a nice ride for ya. We did not take the northern route home due to cold and wanting to get back to see football games that day. Next time I am definitely trying the Northern route. When in Hayward I ride a lot of the loggin roads up by Cable, which we wanted to use to take East.
