Head light and tail light blowing

Should the voltage drop when giving gas. At idle the voltage is at 12.6 at the head lights. When I give it gas it drops to 9.6 and blows my head light and tail light bulbs. The bolt holes for the V.R. were stripped out so I put bigger bolts in to ground it hoping this would fix it. Also noticed the gauge lights go out when giving it gas.

I just put a new voltage regulator on and it does the same thing. At Idel it 12.4 to 12.6 when given gas it drops to 9.5 and blows the bulbs. I clean the surface were its mounted also.

Any Help with this thanks..

I just had a new stator, voltage regulator and flywheel put on 2 years ago. You think the stator going bad already?

Might be... did you buy used or new? If used Yes or maybe something getting ground up in there. Basing stator on what you already serviced this time around or could be a short in the system. You know how to check shorts just start tracing.....not fun I know.

Assuming this is a rope start model then the voltage regulator is strictly a heat sink to ground. It burns excess voltage away in the form of heat. It does not control the stator output; Strictly burns excess output as heat. So if we are dealing with a rope start model, then you need to be measuing the voltage using an AC voltmeter NOT DC VOLTS. Your idle output is normal and you should see 14 to maybe 16 volts AC at high RPM depending on RPM and handlebar heat setting.

Low voltage typically does not burn out bulbs, they will just be dim.

On a battery start model the regulator will also rectify the power to DC volts. In that case you use DC volts to measure battery voltage.
