I don't think you can get a accurate view on the weather that far out as to what trail conditions you will find then. Starting at Sidnaw to Barage/Laanse, to Big Bay, down to Ishpeming, to Republic, then back west thru Michigamme, and back to Sidnaw would be a nice loop. You can shorten that loop up some by not going to Isp, or Rep.
was up in that area last weekend and rode from Ishpeming over to Sidnaw so I can only comment on that portion of your route. We took 8 west to 8/15 south. Obviously gas/food at Sidnaw station in Sidnaw. After that it's slim pickings. Your next gas top could be Michigamme. Or if you think you have enough gas, you could continue heading east on 8 to Koski's Corner which is roughly 5 miles from the trail 8 and trail 5 intersections and get gas there. There are signs marked at that intersection for it. Also just down the road from the gas station is Junction 95 where you can get food/drinks. From there it's 5 north all the way to Big Bay. No stops between Koski's Corner and Big Bay that I recall. There is gas in Big Bay though as well as a place to grab food too I just don't remember the name of the place.
Hillside, and many others at Lanse, several lunch places Big Bay, also you have the Cozy bar and lunch west of Michigamme on trail 8.

When I saw your title I thought you meant east...as in east coast, where they got pounded the past couple days. They have all the luck. 
I don't believe 8 runs from baraga to big bay, I think that's 14. 8 all the way to Michigamme/Ishpeming was a mix of some power line trail along with rail bed. Don't know the exact mileage taking 8 east to 5 north to big bay but I'd guestimate it to be around 80 or so. At the intersection of 8 and 5N it's about 40 miles from there to big bay.
