Heat Shield

Just bought a new to me 04 ZR900 sno-pro. Has a can on it and looks to be slightly melting the inside the of the hood.

Before I get a new can, I was thinking to put some new heat shield / insulation under there. Think it will work? Is this something I can buy from my local wrench?

Aluminum reflective tape would be a good place to start. Big box or hardware store should have it. 2" x 50' or 25' roll I believe. There was probably egg crate insulation in that area at one time. Good luck!

Good idea but look for the good stuff((heavy duty)). don't
use the foam backed tape. If you keep the can get some
aluminum roll flashing and form up a shield like cars have
on the catalytic converters.

thanks guys, i'll check the packing and get some heavy duty aluminum flash & form. Last thing I want to do is add a new hood on to the surprises I've found...

Bought the snow-machine from a car dealer in NY. Was his personal sled and described as mint. His online reputation was good so I thought I was ok. So far the surprises I've gotten:

minor tear in seat - not bad, I'll fix.
bent A arm - looks like he heated it up, attempted to straighten, and then painted.
gouge in hood he covered with a black marker - couldn't see in pics.
and the whole heat / can surprise.

Let's hope this is the last of my repairs before riding
