heated windshield, is it getting power

I bought a used sled that already had the wires for a heated winshield installed. I plugged into it last night because it was starting to spit freezing rain. My shield never cleared of the ice. how can I find out if I am getting power to the shield or how can I trouble shoot this.

Does your sled have a battery and how much time did you give the ice to clear. I had a skidoo modular helmet and shield worked but it took for ever for shield too clear. I had my shield connected to battery on 03 classic. I sprayed water on shield and hooked up to sled . Ice came off slowly.
