Help fab'ing tunnel extension...

Hello, I have a sled (Yamaha Phazer 4stroke) which I have extended from 121 to 136. I have the rear bumper from a Phazer MTX which has a 144" track.

My stock rear bumper for the 121 is 21.5" in length.
The MTX rear bumper for the 144 is 36.5" in length or a difference of 15"

Dumb logic tells me that since I have a 15" of additional track on the 136 and there is 23" of additional track on the 144 that I should go 15/23 of 15" for the additional length of a bumper for the 136 (to which the tunnel extension will mount). This means that I should have 9 3/4" + 21.5 = 31 1/4" for bumper length. Which visually looks like too much.

Is this sound thinking or am I off base?

Second question, once I get the bumper cut down to the right length, I'll need cut and bend some sheet aluminum. Anybody in the twin cities willing to give me access to a shear, corner notcher and finger brake some evening or weekend day for a case of beer?

Thanks,
Mike

the length has to be divided by 2. the track is 15 longer but that length is cut in half by the track going over the rear axle and back the other way. a good lentgh extension for a 136 is usually 8 in my opinion, but I have never done a yami before.

Thanks, makes sense. A bit confused on why the MTX bumper is 15" longer for a track that is only 23" longer.

I'll probably end up with a 9" extension as that about the most I can shorten the MTX bumper without more radical surgery.

Thanks for your help.

I do not know for sure but is the snow flap longer so the tunnel
is extended to keep the flap out of the track?

Mike,
Give me a call, I have a shear, finger break, 8 foot break for sheet metal that will work on your fabrication. Our shop is in St. Louis Park if you need help I think I can do that too, make some goofy fittings with angles all the time. Give me a call on my cell, 612-282-2352 always happy to help.

Thanks Brad will do. I am doing a track swap on the wife's sled this weekend, but I'll try and finish up the bumper fab the following weekend and then I can do the layout for the tunnel extension after that. So probably about 2 weeks out for being ready to do the sheetmetal work. I'll be in touch.

Whats your brand? :)
