Help Please

Waiting to hear reports from the weekend, looking for info on areas to all over in the UP. Looking at unloading in Sidnaw and running some Forest Service roads if we have to . Would like to know if its rideable to Grand Marais area from Sidnaw or not. Have off all week and wanna leave Tuesday and come home Friday. Any and all info is appreciated in advance, thank you.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but I just talked to some guys that have been in the Grand Marais area just doing some off trail screwing around and they tell me the warm up the last few days have really killed the conditions up there. The little they were on trails just to get to some play areas, they were in pretty poor shape.
If it's not good up there, I cant imagine the Sidnaw area is even rideable, but hopefully someone that knows for sure will chime in here.
We are supposed to be going up somewhere for the week of Xmas, as depressing as it is we might have to make other plans due to the damn warmup everywhere ruining what was just getting started.

We are supposed to be heading up to the Kewee a week from today. Skylar - I'm sure hoping for some of your 3 favorite words to save the trip cause right now it's not looking too promising .

NC666 What happened? Where did you go , pretty vague response, thanks, Skylar have you been to Twin Lakes area yet? Thanks Rich

Very limited riding in some areas. We did 105 miles on Sunday some was ok. Do not plan on riding any distance. The traditional higher elevation areas are rideable. The Trails in and out of Mass are ungroomed and horrible and Trail 8 west of Kenton to Bruce is all dirt.

Any idea of riding from Sidnaw to Grand Marais is just nuts. You could ride from Sidnaw to South Laird Rd and go back and forth to Sidnaw a few times if you want. I never tried to go towards Nestoria I doubt if the gate is open E of Prison Camp. Check the Baraga Club report. There was lots of Water everywhere Sunday afternoon and I had to drop the Scratchers on the Plowed Roads Sunday, but they were snow covered.

Bottom Line stay Home until they get more Snow and some Cold weather to freeze things up a little.

Thanks guys, kinda what I figured but had wishful thinking. Had an extra week of Vacation this year and thought I could get some early riding in, next year Im not saving it , gonna use it more in Feb. and March. Some way some how Mother Nature figured out I was off this week,

Been a long time since I was this depressed and concerned about conditions up North!

The trip 12/26 is still on for now, but UP needs 1.5+ ft of new snow and cold to get things back in action and I think that might be a tall order. Doing my daily snow dance/praying for the best.

Anyone else in the same boat feel free to join in on the snow dance!

I was up not this past weekend, but the one before, right after they picked up 10-12 inches of fluff. All that has settled with the warm temps this past weekend. If you have to travel more than a couple hours, and pay for lodging, I would say it's not worth it, depending on how bad you want to scratch the itch. Need more snow for sure. I was just going to head west for the week between xmas and New Year's, but, we now have to replace our boiler in our house, so, there goes that extra play money lol.

The wife and I are in the same boat Sledhead! . Still hoping for a Xmas miracle so we can head up as planned, but unless something major happens we will probably scrub it.
Sucks to say the least

Thanks Skylar, We have decided to wait to see if the snow hits later in the week and if it does we can go in a moments notice.

I wish I was in a situation that was as easy to cancel as some of yours. I am flying in from Florida for a week from the 27th to the third. Bought my son and wife new sleds and didn't think that Lake Gogebic area would not have snow in late Dec. We have two friends coming with us that are renting sleds as well. I hope we can do more then run around a little bit on the lake but I guess that will be the worst case scenario. We are praying for a Northern wind shift to take place. I will fly back up for another attempt in mid February but this could potentially be a long week.

I have lived in the U.P. my entire life (over 50 years but not saying how many) and have never seen a green Christmas yet. A few times it was close, but there was always snow on the ground for Christmas. I remember a few times there was very little snow until the beginning of Jan, but the snow always comes.

Sitting by the fireplace, playing cards, drinking beer or smoking pot (yes, it's legal)....

That's all you're going to do in the midwest or Canada right now this weekend.

Snowmobiling ain't happening until January unless we get a miracle.

I book a hotel in the UP every weekend from Jan 1st through March 31st and I cancel any date I don't use. This is the only way to approach a weather dependent hobby. If you can't break free on a whim, you're going to set yourself up for disappointment.
