My son blew up his motor on his 250 enticer So i found a parts sled with a good running motor took the motor out and everything was a bolt on match. I ran into trouble when i went to wire it up the original motor in it only had three wires coming out of it yellow black and orange the new motor has 4 wires a white orange striped, brown, green, and black also the parts sled had a small electrical box next to the motor on the bulkhead. My question is was this a diff year sled that had a external voltage regulator and mine was built in the motor and can i hard wire this some how.I suppose i need someone with some Enticer knowledge maybe a collecter thanks in advance for any help here

You may be able to ck the yr of your parts sled by the vin #. Maybe post it here and someone on JD can help with that. It probably is a different yr than yours as the engines for the same yr wouldn't be different except for maybe a late model year change. Can you just use the entire wire harness and regulator from the parts sled?

yea probably could looks a little complicated i did find out what the diff is i guess mine is a 78 and has points the new motor is a 79 and that year came with cdi Ignition so i am torn between doing the harness switch or change the the stator and points.

looked at it today looks like changing out the wire harness is the way to go looks like the wire colors should match up and plug right in just hope there are no more surprises

I used to have a 340 ET. That was a great little sled. Very dependable as were the 250 one lungers.
Yeah, the CDI would be much better and the way to go.

well ran into another problem my Ignition switch the thing the key goes in has a 4 wire socket the new wire harness from the other sled only has a 2 wire socket for the ignition switch seems like its a simple on off switch could i just rig something or do i need a new ignition switch now.

On your old harness, the extra wires may be for the elec. start option like my 340 had. Just test the 4 connections on your switch to see which two "connect" and "disconnect" as you turn the key on and off. Or you can use the new ignition if it's there. A locksmith should be able to make a key if you don't have it. On a 2 wire ignition, it's just a simple switch. Connecting the two wires together grounds it out to shut it off. Turning the key to "on" simply disconnects the circuit to the "run" position. A simple toggle switch would work as well.
