Help with getting power to the ground.

Ok, to make a long story short. I put a 136 under my 99 xc500 last year with a 1.5" lug track. I regeared to a 21/41 (stock was 23/41) which helped a little bit but I believe I need some clutching. I know very little about clutching. Just wondering if someone else has set up a 500 polaris before and knows what a good setup would be. I also noticed that my clutch was grooved. It looks like the guy that had it before me ran it at one speed and grooved the clutch in that area. Its not a sharp edged groove or anything, just a smooth, gradual dip in the clutch (best I can explain it). Should that be replaced or isnt it a big deal? It seems to work fine but I may be loosing some shifting because of it, not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you rode it in the snow last season and it was lacking ? ski lift or proper rpm or ?

How many miles on the sled?

A grove in a clutch is never a good thing and it sounds like this one may have an area worn the width of the belt. I would recommend going through the clutches and replace the worn sheave or the entire clutch and rebush, change out with fresh springs and new buttons in the secondary. A fresh clutch set up should perk that thing up a bit but again Im not sure what type of perormance gain you are looking for.

yeah, the groove is about the width of the belt. I bought a used clutch from a guy and am probably going to put it on. I was looking for suggestions on what color springs, weights, ect. would give me a little more get up and go. Not looking for top end but the snappy low end torque for boondocking.

Please look into the Heel Klicker 2 speed weight. I run that set up in my 99 pol 600 and its the only clutch set up i would ever run. They pull very very hard out of the hole and up through mid range and never lost any top end. I ve tried lots of clutch kits and even tried my own but the heel klicker just kicks but. Good luck. Have fun
