Homeless finally!

Spent the weekend cleaning and moving the last items out and then closed with the buyers today. I said we may have gotten a big check but now we are homeless. Thankfully we aren't cabin-less. Trying to empty out a 3000 sq ft house that we'd lived in for 17 yrs and move full time into a 1200 sq ft cabin that's already fully furnished creates a challenge. Not sad about leaving the house but am going to miss my shop. The only positive there was cement was being poured today for a new one at the cabin (home?) On to our next adventure! home 2.jpg home.jpg

I wrote 2 week use of 1 garage bay in 3 car garage in my offer which allowed me to move all my lawn equipment and many boxes of tools didn’t want to pay movers to move pay by the pound and heavy stuff. Multiple trips got it all moved. You don’t realize how much stuff you accumulate especially in the Northwoods when bush fix is better than a 40 mile RT to town. I gave so much away and still had 2 pickups full to Phelps dumpster day. 🤷‍♂️

I have made at least 12 trips to the dump. Full truck loads of stuff, 5 just last weekend. And I still have probably one more as we get the trailer unloaded. Last time we moved my company paid for it so they packed everything, moved it, stored it until we found a new place so I didn't realize what a PITA this would become. So much useless crap, so much extra furnishings that we didn't need. We had a great fire the last night burning up a hutch, file cabinet, and some other items we couldn't even give away. So a lesson to me is stay lean on crap and throw it away or sell it if you aren't using it.

Pretty exciting times I’d say. Haven’t heard from him lately but I think Switch07 did something similar, except he went to an RV lifestyle.

Are there any other year-around residents up by your cabin or do most move back to another residence in the winter? When I go up to the lake place in the winter it’s kind of eerie. There is no one around, it’s so quiet my ears ring.

I’m not a betting person but if I were, I’d bet you end up in Idaho or Montana. Someplace close to the mountains.

So a big part of our decision to build our cabin where we did is everybody else on our road (all 7 of them) are full time residents. And one is the plow driver for our township so we get plowed out quickly. But as I always say, when there's only 10 miles of roads in the township everybody gets plowed out quickly. So its always been nice being able to call a neighbor to check on something and one of my neighbors has been awesome in keeping me plowed out in the winter.

The Idaho/Montana dream is still strong. there's not a day goes by that my wife isn't sending me a real estate listing from the Couer D Alene area. And prices are starting to drop out there a bit but we are at least a year away from being able to make any moves.

Yes I did back in 2016, 1800 sq feet down to a 400 sq ft fifth wheel, surprised you remembered, lol! A full dumpster of stuff even our kids didn’t want! We traveled the country for 5 years then retired when my wife got tired of 400 sq ft. We now have a home in Florida near the Village's for the winter months and have a 42 ft motorhome to travel back and forth to Wisconsin to the cabin for the summer. Waved goodbye to the Vipers in 2018 due to the poor snow conditions in Florida and now get around the woods in a SXS. Still like to come on JD to see what everyone is up to. Hopefully you all have a good snowy winter this year. I’ll be watching poolside for now on. Stay safe friends….
