homemade sled deck/ ramp

Thought I'd post some pics of the sled deck I've been using in my truck for the past few years. Got the idea from some utube videos etc. and kind of modified to my liking some. Allows me to load/unload in a matter of minutes by myself. Keeps the sled out of the salt spray and saves from having to grab a trailer every time I want to go somewhere. Originally had the deck built as a solid 8ft platform with 8 ft ramp but decided to shorten the ramp this year to 6.5 ft and hinge the deck so that when not in use I can fold it up and shut my gate/ tonneau cover. Basically just built a perimeter around the bed with two by fours leaving the middle open for the ramp to slide in. Just a sheet of osb on the top and the ramp is treated 3/4 inch plywood. Used 2 by 4s for guides and to help keep the ramp from flexing. I get 0 flex when loading. ski runners are bedliner strips and used an old track for traction mat. The ramp has a couple small pieces of chain bolted to it that I secure with straps to the bed when loading/unloading to keep it from kicking out. Once loaded I take the same straps to the bumper of the sled to secure it. ramp just sits in there and has never moved. I do have a rubber bed mat. This can easily be done with a 5.5 ft box as well. Just need to maybe shorten the deck a foot and I don't know that I'd cut the ramp down much below 6.5. My buddy had a similar set up in his shortbed silverado hauling a crossfire last winter.

Well done, looks great! Being able to load solo is a huge plus.

Looking good. I sprung for a aluminum ramp, but very similar set up. Had to use 2X8's so the ramp would fit underneath. Love being able to cruise down the road and not have to be looking back to see if my trailer is on the road. The extra weight also helps the truck hold the road when the weather turns nasty.

They stay cleaner than they do on the trailer. May pick up a bit of spray from uncoming semis but pretty miner if any.

I built one similar a few years ago. I split the ramp in two pieces and added a center support on the deck.

It was a lot faster traveling with it in the back versus trailering.

600 RMK--I have the same set up although I also installed a conveyor belt down the middle to help protect ramp from studs.
