Hot Grips 123 - 3 wire

I have a 2006 Renegade 600 SDI and just purchased some Hot Grips 3 wire grips, but not entirely understanding the installation process. I thought I would be able to just cut the old grip wires and solder in the new wires right at the a few inches from the grips, but the directions that came with are completely different than I had been reading and are not saying to tap into the wires for the exsisting grips. Can someone help me out with this and make it understandable, possibly with wire colors. Thanks in advance.

3 wires ...one is ground, one is high, one is low. use volt/ohm meter to determine which is which. ground is typically black, power wires have color stripes. there are 2 heating elements in the grips, one for low, one or both for high. pretty simple system. just a coil of "wire" in there to heat up(actually flat metal bands like a rear heat defroster on the car rear window.)

yes, just need to determine the high/low power wires. I have installed sever times over the years. As long as the hot grips are not the older version with the ceramic resistor, they should wire up just fine

No, they are the new 123 hot grips. I do know which wires are what and I bought them thinking I could just splice the wires in, but the schematic & direction that came with look different and never say you can just splice in. Thanks for the info.

This info is in the link I posted earlier:

Doo Grips- Orange=Hot, Orange/Violet=Low, Ground=Black
Hot Grips- Red=Hot, Orange=Low, Ground=Black

I cut the stock wires about 2" after they come out of the handle bar blocks, you'll have to cut the OEM wire protectors back a little so you have room to work. Getting the cap off of the back of the throttle block is kind of a pain...first you have to remove the small screw on the side of the cap...my buddy broke the cap because he forgot to take the screw out so dont forget that, then you have to stick a screwdriver in the back of the throttle block and push the side off but be careful not to nick any of the kill switch wires that are back there. After you get the stock grips off you can slide the new hot grips on and use a high temp epoxy, we used JB weld since it was the only thing available that is rated for temps over 250. JB is prolly a little much but they certainly wont be sliding around when hot. After you slide the grips on with the epoxy slide some shrink tubing on each wire and make your connections...make sure your wires cannot make direct contact with each other! After that button everything back up and hit the trail. You may want to test the grips before you solder your connections just in case

I just tried to order hot grips 123 for my ski doo and the owner is not taking orders. He replied to an email that due to medical reasons, he did not think he would be able to go back into production. Does anyone else have some suggestions for replacement grips on a 2006 Ski Doo 600 SDI?
