How many ppl here actually live in the Keweenaw/Porkies?

Came to Michigan Tech in the Fall of 2010, stuck around there for seven years absolutely loving the college life in the Keweenaw - the school, the laid back friendly U.P. culture, the scenery and freedom to explore, the church I go to, etc. Last April I was offered the closest thing to my dream job as I could probably imagine (task and obviously location wise), so here I am continuing to love life in this place. I always knew I was never one for the city life, but have had the opportunity to go to more rural areas of Colorado, Maine, and New York over the past year and every time it feels so good to get back to the Keweenaw.

We moved to the central UP from beautiful Leelanau Co. Was getting way to many people there for us. We both had great careers there; but decided to slow down a bit, maybe not make quite as much money, but live life how we want. No regrets! Being a builder; I have to put the hours in April thru Sept. Winter time I'm grooming. Also, ride when the conditions are optimum (mid week).

I have lived here in the Keweenaw most of my life (57 so far). Traveled enough, not including 3 yrs in the US Army, that brought me to the realization that there is no better country or place to live, work & play much less raise a family. Would not trade it for anything! The U.P is the place to be, out door playing is the life for me!

BTW sjb, you can fly out of Houghton County Memorial Airport here in the Keweenaw, Sawyer International in Marquette County, Delta County Airport in Escanaba, Ford Airport in the Iron Mountain - Kingsford area.

We always called it Houghton International cause you had to go to a big airport first anyway so that means you can go anywhere in the world!
