How Tight do I want my chain?

I just changed the oil in my chain case and was wondering how Tight I want the chain. When I took the cover off the chain was very loose? I never noticed any issues though? 2005 xc/sp 500? Which did brake 2 bolts when I first bought. Once at 700 then again at 1400. Working fine now though.

Turn your secondary clutch forward by hand to take slack out of chain, lock parking brake. Turn tensioner bolt in by hand until it stops, turn back 1/4 turn. Tighten lock nut and release brake, your done.
