Just an FYI....I discovered that the cable boxes that everyone leaves on 24/7....they use as much as 6 tvs....so after your done watching for the night just turn it off...u don't have to unplug...just hit the off button on remote like turning off the TV....I had one upstairs...one in living room and one at cabin left on all the time....saved huge money...watched the bill ho down...there's many films about it on YouTube if you don't believe me...check it out for yourself....enjoy lower bills and thank me later

Wow! What is going on in those cable boxes that they are using so much power? Total rip off like the rest of cable.

Or you could do like I did many years ago and cancel cable. That should save you over $800 per year plus the electrical consumption of the cable box. In my area, there are at least 29 over the air channels and combined with the free channels on my smart TV and YouTube, you should be able to find something to watch. Or go outside and do something.

I would love to cancel cable TV, only problem here is we don't have any TV stations close enough to receive a signal from via antenna. Even before the conversion to digital we could only receive 2 & some times 3 stations with he old analog signal. I guess that's the price we pay to live in the northern reaches of the U.P. I will however have a little more due diligence to make sure that my wife turns off the cable boxes when not in use. That was an informative bit of information Tracker, thanks for that. -Mezz

So I watched the video and figured I'd check my Comcast box, well the newer boxes they give you are powered by a brick that only uses 1.5A, so pretty efficient.

Speaking of stations, I remember back in the 70's in northern Minnesota, there was 1 channel and they shared 2 TV corps. Believe it was CBS & NBC. They would switch programing in the middle of a movie, game show or sports show! Now, that's in the boonies.

Yes the newer is better...but that 1.5 amps = 18 watts....and don't forget ....THATS EVERY HOUR ITS ON....thats the problem...that 1.5 is not in a day...but hourly

Best to just return the cable boxes and switch to utube TV where there's more than enough monkeys to entertain me and my $100 a month savings...

How to save on your electric bill, hmm...let me think, reminds me of a story about 40 years ago, there was a guy I knew that ran a business in Cicero IL, all the electric meters were in the basement that he had a key to, he came up with a brilliant idea of opening up his meter and putting the meter in upside down, (back then this would run the meter backwards) well a few months went by and he forgot about it and he went back and put it right, they read it and then he got a check for like $450, that’s how you save on your electric bill...definitely not a good idea for anyone
