I bought an HPS Can to add a little different tone to my exhaust. I put it on my brand new renegade backcountry 800R. I went on a 30 miles ride sounded awesome. the following week I went 20 miles to a place for dinner. Came out of the bar to turn on my sled and wow what the heck happened. I even opened my side pannel to make sure it was in there it was that loud. Did all the coating on the inside wear off from it being so hot. The first 50 miles the sound was perfect. Now the sound just bellows in my helmet.

Any info on this would be great. It has an awesome engine so if I get in the deep stuff I dont want to be easy on the throttle because of this can.

You burned out the packing in it. Time to open it up and re-pack with good quality stuff. Not house insulation! Silent sport and Moose offer packing material that will last for a long time. Pack it tight too. We did this yearly on our Dirt bikes, keeps the sound level and back pressure where it should be.

I read a ton of posts on other popular forums about this brand cans for the 800R on the XP. I’ve never heard of them getting louder with age, especially after 50 miles. I was interested in a HPS brand can too, because I’m sick of my “20 lb nightmare stock muffler”. Did you contact the place you bought from yet? With a price tag close to $300, I would think you should more than 50 miles out of it before it has to be “repacked”.

Just got off the phone with where I bought it. This weekend I will find out where the sound is coming from. Maybe put the stock can on to see if its really the can that is making the noise. But the sound levels were coming out of the HPS while attached. Maybe my valves are stuck open? Ill make sure exhaust isnt coming out anywhere besides under the sled. The sled and HPS are both brand new! I will check it out this weekend. Any other ideas?
