Thank you for the question.
Our webcam was inoperable more than operable. The decision was made to look for alternative ways to promote the area vs webcam.

Pretty damn hard to beat those webcams for us sledders who travel many hours to visit Northern Wisconsin and UP. Also probably saves on the phone calls to local businesses asking if you have received any snow.

Our office is researching opportunities and equipment for a new improved webcam system. A few things that have to be considered include: Internet speed/ capacity; equipment that can withstand all the weather we receive and placement. While it is easier for those out of the area to view a webcam, it isn't always that easy for us. We don't have the same internet speed that is available in large metropolitan areas ---- which creates more down town on the camera. Please keep calling our chamber 715-561-4334, watching our website as we update reports regularly with information straight from our WTR Trail Boss and for up to date 24 hour recorded information call 715-476-SNOW. Please be patient as we work toward finding a viable solution for the webcam. Thank you

I have an idea....I just sold some but maybe can get another....I bought at auction a solar power railroad station setup.....it had 12 solar panels 4 x 8 and all the wires and batteries and transformers and everything you needed for a stand alone power plant....I sold it to a friend who wanted a cabin off the grid but like a hotel.....works fantastic...powers the whole cabin....you could look for something along this lines...was city of Chicago but the station was never built or put into service....the batteries would not hold a charge so most people did not want to even bid since batteries are huge monies....only I know a fix for that too....I live in amish country...and the amish build and work at all the RV FACTORIES here in Elkhart Indiana....so I know a few amish....and those dudes install the solar panels on the RV's and are also allowed to use them for their cordles power tools....the solar does not interfere with their beliefs....so those dudes can get solar batteries for next to nothing...and they are lithium and small and 10x better than the ones that the solar company sells for these panel setups....so buy those form the amish instead to save several thousand dollas...good luck or let me know if you want me to look for another station or solar setup....once setup all panel arrays an stuff takes up only a small space or the roof and is added onto the generator room which is only 8 x 8 shack

I appreciate the response and love that the chamber is active on JohnDee. The reports are really helpful to those of us from out of state.

A bit harsh! While I think the webcams are great, I am more then thrilled that the Hurley chamber takes the time to come on here to update reports. Any other Chambers on here from Northern Wisconsin or the UP?? I appreciate the reports and feel this site is really under utilized by business or groups trying to promote an area in the UP or Wisconsin. Keep the reports coming please!

So the basis of my question was just inquiring why the camera in Hurley is down, nothing more. The placement was fantastic, it looked right down the trail behind Silver Street, where all the action is. As noted above there are 2 other cameras within 20 miles but very misleading. One shows the persons backyard (Pence) the other shows a dealership's plowed parking lot (Ironwood). Both don't give a good any indication of what the trails look like.

Now lets take this morning for example. Its 7:30am here in Southern Wisconsin after a warm weekend everywhere and I'm online. If the camera was up and working I could start to gauge whether or not I should still be planning my week up next week, as we have $1000+ riding on the conditions that we cant see....

It is disappointing that there are no cameras that show trail conditions. Iron Nugget was the only one that showed anything worthwhile looking at in our area.

I guess to me what the trail looks like downtown will not whatsoever represent the rest of the trail system. Especially the iron nugget which shows the plowed section of that trail. As far as I know that still works if you go to their site and do not use internet explorer.
