I have reservations in Mercer starting the 10th. 7 hour drive alone. Have to decide for cancellation by this Thursday. I like to ride north and south of Mercer and am starting to wonder. Slight warm up this weekend

Im going to Mercer tomorrow. I doubt we will head south much, but I'll post on here in a couple days how it is.

Just got back from Mercer this afternoon. Rode Friday through Sunday and the Trails in Mercer North East and West were in very good condition with a few Trails still closed. We finished our riding around 7:00 PM Sunday night and they received another 2 to 3 inches overnight Sunday and a Winter Storm Warning was posted until 6:00 AM Tuesday calling for an additional 4 to 8 inches. We didnt ride South of Mercer at all, but talked to other riders who said they rode South and had mixed reports from not very good to decent, so really cannot report on any think south. My advice is you will have good riding in Mercer and great riding if they get the 4 to 8 inches predicted.

How about the flowage is that rideable or staked I think it's the turtle lac flowage not sure of name but use to love taking that will be up in Phillips in a week and thought nothing else could park at the access North of springstead and jump on flowage and run north

The turtle flambeau is marked from gateway (north end) to donners bay. I dont think its marked to Flowage rd yet but it might be in a week.

Flowage was fantatastic on Sunday afternoon. We road it from Hideaway to the Boat Landing down to The Birches. No problems whatsoever.

Can somebody possibly explain the existence of trail 8A from 17 to the east and south towards Mercer? It goes nowhere, it is never taken care of and once you're stuck on it, you're stuck. If nobody is going to maintain a trail, why not just close it off and remove it instead of putting riders through ****?

I believe 8a is closed due to high water in the swamps. When it freezes up it will be groomed.

Its always one of the last trails to shape up because of the low wet areas, but when its good its a great trail. Also goes to fisher lake which used to have two places open but now may not have any. There was one other place on that trail years ago that I can't think of now. And if you want to go towards winchester or manitowish waters you don't need to go throught Mercer.

Are you referring to the section of Trail 8 that leads to Rice Lake? Or the spur that leads to Long Lake?
Either way, we have referred your question to the Mercer Sno-Goers for clarification. That area of trail system is maintained / groomed by their club. We will get back to you with an answer. Thanks!

Did both the Hideaway Bay and John and Judy Lask's place, (forget the name) both close, on Fisher Lake? Used to go there all the time, as our place was directly across the lake from the Lask's.

8A is a great trail if your on Fisher Lake and want to go directly northwest to Hurley, as opposed to going down thru Mercer to 17. Yes it gets moguled up, but it's a long trail, in the heart of the lake effect belt, with a lot of open areas.
I'm sure that trail wasn't being "hit" every single day with a groomer, so with early season riding, what would you expect?

well, I just changed my reservation in Mercer. With a few of the trails still closed, and marginal snow south, and yet another warm up this weekend I couldn't commit to a 7 hour drive

I don't know. What would you expect when you ride a marked, open trail off of a main route like 17?

8a is now groomed
Thanks for all of your efforts.

I beleive it was Fisher Lake Lodge you are thinking about. I stopped there in March of 17 and a father/son team was there working on the place. There were from marathon county if I remember right. Nice guys, gave us a couple Hamms and called us their first customers. We told them were looking forward to coming back next winter, we did, and still closed. This past summer I saw the place for sale for $189,000 or somewheres near that. I have no idea yet about this winter. But was a nice out of the way place to go.
