I was wondering if any one can give me recommendations on getting a new central a/c unit. I am in Lakeville MN and heard the "responsible by nature" ad by Xcel. They are offering a rebate and I think we are ready for a new one so I thought I would check here. Possibly do a furnace too if it's in the funds.

Pitt,
I am part owner of a company in St. Louis Park w/my brothers. My bro actually lives in Lakeville.

First, there is a definate line to not cross in efficiency on AC units up here. No payback unless you run AC 24/7 March to Nov.

There are some good combo's out there for systems, it all depends on how much comfort is worth to you.

As far as equipment, The company putting it in and warranting the parts and labor is more important than the badge on the machine.

We carry the Bryant and York(Johnson Controls) units because we have a great relationship with the local distributors. They help when there is a "problem the factory has never heard of before" I've been doing this since 1988 and self employed since 1998 with the brothers. Our motto is "Quality is our middle name". A small family owned shop with small town service in the big city. We try!!

Let me know if we can help, email brad@aqscomfort.com or cell # 612-282-2352 Call me if you have some questions, I'm not in front of the 'puter all day, out on the jobs.

talk to ya, Brad

Brad, when you say there is a line to not cross on efficiency, I am wondering if what that number is. I think a lot of those rebates you have to have like a 13 seer or higher and those things get expensive.

Yamahauler,
The line depends how much you actually USE the AC. Most people say they only use it for two weeks a year, the actual hours of operation depend by zone in the country. Check out this calculator http://www.hvacopcost.com/ and you can verify what you feel is proper for your budget. Every home is different and everone thinks a furnace is a furnace and an AC is an AC. size it right and install to the budget is the best way to go. BUT, with that said, lower the budget, the cheaper,(not cost effective) the machines will be.

A heck of a lot of variables depending on the house. Give me a call if you want to discuss. We are not high pressure sales or anything here like you will find with alot of the Big Boy companies in the metro.

I'm always willing to help out fellow JD'ers, cell # 612-282-2352

Just letting folks know that we have chosen Brad and his company, AQS Comfort to install our new furnace and a/c. Best price, people that know people and JD helped us make the decision that we are looking forward to getting installed on the 4th.
