So if I stick my hand in a fire to see if it’s hot I can sue a caveman for inventing fire? Wonder who his decendence are. They might be rich

There is no self accountability anymore. The way I see it's clearly the friend and the drivers fault. 1. It was really smart to jump in for the line before figuring out if it's safe to. 2. The driver needs to be aware of his surroundings at all times. I guess they have never heard of saying "In gear " or "Neutral"

"According to the suit, the manufacturer of the boat and motor did not have safety devices, including guards or covers, to prevent Brochtrup from becoming entangled or stuck." SERIOUSLY????

Gee, whats next? maybe everyone should get lobotomys that way we have no brain cells and are never ever accountable for anything because we don't have the ability to think. The judge/jury must have all checked their brains at the courtroom door too.

I think I am going to go spill some hot coffee on my crotch now.

Are the jury members just a bunch of boat haters. Seriously...they should of had a safety guard over the propeller, give me a break. The verdict should of read.....Sorry for you misfortune. Brochtrup, you are an idiot for jumping in without the driver of the boat to be aware that you did so. Driver of boat, you lose your license to operate a boat and are also an idiot for not knowing your surroundings. You all will receive nothing for you stupidity!

Same deal near my home town. Lady stops on the tracks, see train coming, cranks the wheel and bottoms out the van on the train rails getting it stuck. Train hits the van with her son, cop, and husband inside and the van owners are suing the railroad company.... dumb.

I heard about that.....I guess the train should have SWERVED. I hope the railroad doesn't settle out of court on this one.

Looks like the car manufacturers will need to put guards around the tires to make them safe given this line of reasoning.

Sues Bruinswick [sic] for losing leg in boating accident and wins. Another perfect example of whats wrong with this country ( just like the "kids these days" thread).
I see this was in Travis county, TX. I guess you could call this verdict a "Travisty"!

As a lifelong boater- that is just 100% wrong. These guys were 18 at the time. Clearly, two kids who know nothing about boat safety. It was an ACCIDENT. I hate, hate, hate the fact that no one can just have an accident these days without trying to sue someone for millions of dollars. He shouldn't have jumped in. Driver should have looked behind him. Done. I also liked the one moronic lady's comment about how boat safety hasn't improved like cars... cars have seat belts, antilock brakes, etc. Really lady? Have you ever been on a boat? First of all, it is a recreational sport- not a way to get from A to B (unless you're lucky). Comparing boats to cars is just ridiculous. Who gets on a boat and doesn't realize there is a big, sharp, spinning, chopping blade at the back that makes it go that you should avoid at all costs? Please. Eagle- my blood is boiling just like yours.

this opens the door for this.....if the gun didn't fire when i pulled the trigger he would still be alive.it's the gun makers fault.then you can go after the bullet manufacturer.nice.what a crazy time to be an american.

no....the kids have no money or equity cause they dont work.
please reread "kids these days" post
Actually, these kids have 3.8 million. I think we should all sue them for something.
I just cannot believe a jury sees it this way.

I just googled prop guards. Do those things actually work? Seems like they would significantly affect the performance of the boat.

Wh had one on 1 of our john boats. Something like the one in the picture. It works for rocks and shallow stuff but don't think that it would stop a person.

I wonder who is liable when you take all the safety stickers off your sled that has to warn you of danger and what can happen if you dont read them. Maybe you can sue the maker of the glue on the sticker!Time to repeal all the laws back to the Eisenhower days and start over!
