When people leave IL on a daily basis 'cause they are taxed to death. Government taxes them more to make up for people leaving that **** hole. We need more government!

I just renewed by boat trailer. $120 with credit card fee. My snowmobile trailer will be up next. It's hard to describe the feeling of "being taken advantage of" that I'm feeling. It's like we have no voice. We just have to sit here and take it. There should be enough recreational enthusiasts to make a big deal out of this, or some kind of outdoor group that is incensed over this like I am. Don't forget about how we get ripped off in tolls. Does anybody know of anyone fighting this crap?

Illinois is getting out of hand. I renew all the plates at one time. Last year it was $452 this year it would have been $902 for the same. We have a pick up a car a older car that will get antique plates next year a motorcycle and three pre 2000 trailers one 5000lb and two of them 300lb or less.

Looks like I will be selling and can't wait to retire in a few years and get out of this tax riddled state!!

If the trailer is not used often why license it? I know a bunch of people that don't. Just take the fine when or if it happens. Last time i got one in a company truck that someone forgot to pay fine was dropped after proof of licensing.

That is a option. But knowing how they handle it in our local area and if it's personal and over 30 days out you will get a ticket the fine is a $252 minimum and with the plate's going up I understand they will be watching closer.

FYI get stopped without a License or get arrested for a DUI, drugs ect they tow and it starts out at $700 to get it out the first day.
By the way this is not in the North East corner of the state!

Don't come to Michigan , they are even worse and insurance is outrageous.

So I did some research. There is a Bill on the table to reduce the small trailer plate fees back to $18. The price increase was really meant for larger trailers and the small trailers just got grouped in without much time or thought to fight it. The Bill to decrease the price has a lot of Representatives sponsoring it, so there's hope. I already emailed the four State Reps in my area, and one has already responded. He is actually a Sponsor already.

Sell the trailers under 3,000 GVW to a friend in Wisconsin for $1.00 then borrow it from them. Won't hurt to get a signed letter from the Wisconsin friend saying they own it and loaned it out to you.

Won’t be renewing the TA plate for enclosed Snowmobile trailer anymore .

Will just use the one from the car trailer and swap back and forth .

Illinois doesn't tax retirement income/benefits.

Correct but they do on everything other thing. My home appraised at $165000. In 2013 is the same home as it was in 2005 no changes taxes were $2500 now $6500 among other taxes. Wage increases have been below cost of living. Overhead for companys gone up wages held steady. Maybe not in the North East side of the state.

IL is working on changing the tax free retirement as well. It will not be too long until their hands are in that too.

Not to mention the graduated income tax that is being kicked around. As for the trailer fee, one of mine the IL plate is coming off and the other it will have to be renewed for now as it is being used to move stuff up north. So if they pull back the plate fee will those that pay get a refund or will it be for next year???

We have always registered all our “stuff” (sleds, trailers, boats, four wheelers) in Wisconsin. Mainly it’s just easier to get trail passes and such from Wisconsin and I would rather have Wisconsin get my money cause they offer and maintain trails that I use.

Does Illinois give an option to register it quarterly? My 10K GVWR trailer is $77.50 a year. I thought that was expensive compared to my camper($15). I can't complain now compared to your rates! I went with only 2 quarter registration to make my WI rates cheaper.
