Illinois Chain O Lakes and Fox River

Hey all,

Looks like a little window this year to ride the Chain and river, wondering if anyone has any recent reports from this past weekend. Typically, the open water is in the same spots every year, but the river around Johnsburg can be sketchy. Any into would be appreciated.

Rode Fox and Pistakee Friday Saturday, went to radar run on Pistakee on Saturday. Ice was snow covered and real good except under the 12 bridge starting to open back up. We were even able to run Nippersink creek up to the trestle as it was frozen for the first time in 20 years from what we heard. Probably all out the window now. By Saturday afternoon some slush was showing through in spots. I heard a few went through in McHenry on Saturday so I would think the window is closing quickly for the chain, especially near the moving water areas with the higher temps this week and the sun doing some damage.

I rode all over McHenry county Saturday and the conditions couldn’t have been better. We had an awesome riding season in Illinois but I fear it is over.
