Illinois trails - this weekend

Wondering about park and ride locations in the Bureau Junction area. I am thinking about riding the Hennepin Canal trails this weekend. Is there a contact I can call to get trail report for the day. Anyone have a better option for me? I am open to suggestions - I will be trailering up from Peoria.

Thanks,

Dave

A little bit further north and you can ride the tri county trails from Rochelle off of I39. http://www.tcsnowmobile.com/

Or you could hit the canal then the feeder north. You get off the canal at Riverdale Rd Near Rock Falls and follow the signs. Maps of region 6 are available at Longshots and K's Korners right on the trail. Supposedly you can get to Wisconsin from there.

Good luck

Just be careful and have all your insurance and registration ready, a few of my friends got pulled over twice on the Il/Mich canal last weekend. You need to register so they get their money and they offer so much!

There is a parking lot on the canal in Bureau, but the trail from there has "trail closed "signs posted. Been that way for years. Rode from there last weekend. I would suggest going to the visitors center in Sheffeild just off of route 40. The actual feeder trail is impassable in many places due to extremely large rock hard drifts. You can ride on the ice but beware of slushy areas and open water near the many culverts which the canal passes through. Tri-county trails are mostly groomed and very well marked. http://snowmobile-trails.proboards.com/ Should be plenty of snow wherever you choose to ride.:)

Thanks to all for your input. I will try to write after I get back from riding to let you know how it went.

Rode the canal today - it was in awesome shape! The wife and I are going back tomorrow - this time without the 7 yearold. More miles without getting cold.
