India Monsoons

Hi John,

Are there any connections between the monsoon season in India and US weather? I vaguely recall hearing about a connection years ago. I see the monsoons are starting later than normal and some of the Ag traders are mentioning it.

Thanks

Mark

There is no strong connection. There has been some study into a relationship between the convection in the Arabian Sea (part of the SW Asian Monsoon) and the amount of tropical waves that move across the African Sahel and then onto the Atlantic tropical basin where they can spin up into tropical systems that can impact the US, but that is about it.

The monsoon rains are a bit slow to start, but they are not excessively tardy yet as they should only be into the southern 1/3rd to 1/2 of the country at this point.
