Indiana DNR stolen sleds

Now here we have some brazen criminals. I am sure they have already been parted out, however, beware in case someone tries to pull you over, they may not be a Conservation Officer.

I know if we purchase a sled from out of state, I must fill out a form and have local law enforcement run a vin check before it can be registered. 2 years ago I bought a Skidoo from Illinois had it checked and it came back stolen. Luckily for me, when the officer called the vin number in he transposed 2 numbers. Mine was not stolen but one that had a similar vin was. Scared me for a second, lol.

Wow! That is brazen.
Doesn't give much faith in stolen sleds being recovered if they are offering a reward for their own sleds.

The sad thing is the local Dealer likely provided the DNR usage of the sleds for the season for free and now has to deal with this hassle in addition to the comped depreciation.
Simonar's in Luxemburg does it and generally has the sleds for sale the following year. Simonar's even provides ATV and UTV usage for free to Police also.
They are a very nice Company to support the regulation/safety of our sports.

I didn't actually buy a new sled from Leroy until 2004 but remember buying parts from them in 1982 for the old Can-Am dirt bikes we tried to keep going, seemed like we were there once a week. No internet and one place to get'em in Northeast Wisconsin.

Here is an update, a tip on Jan 5th led to the recovery of the sleds. Said one has been arrested and more arrests are pending. Somebody is a bit richer!
