Has anyone installed the Polaris PERC reverse kit on an '02 Polaris 600 edge, I know they are made for 03 and up, but I thought I have heard of guys installing this on earlier ones, what elso do you need to change, I have mechanical reverse right now, but the gears dont allways engage and it grinds the gears, everything is adjusted properly, I was told that these were a problem to engage at times,

thanks Rob

The PERC and Ski Doo's reverse are the same thing. The system is all electronic. The ignition actually causes the engine to run in reverse by altering the timing to be advanced in the opposite rotation. You would have to change the CDI ignition controller, maybe the stator, the activation button or switch, I don't know if the wire harness is set up for it, so maybe that too. A lot of work. I think I would get the mechanical reverse working properly, since your already hauling the weight of it around anyway. Just my opinion. If you really want the PERC, it could be done.

A guy asked the same question in the Feb. 2010 issue of american snowmobiler. They basically told him it could be done but it doesn`t sound to me like it would be worth all the work. They`re talking new cdi, flywheel, recoil, wiring harness, left side handlebar controls, and maybe changing voltage regulator wires.

I can buy the kit for and '03 for $300, it comes with everything needed, switch, oilpump, cdi, team secondary roller clutch, wiring harness, the only other part I would need is the 03 flywheel, probably could find one on ebay, but I have heard that some guys dont bother with replacing the flywheel, and they have had no issues, I know the timing is different between the 02 and 03 thats why they have different flywheels,

has anybody here done this mod. it would be the same if it was done on a 02 500,700,800,

If I could get this to work, I would just sell my mechanical reverse.

I have done this on my 02 pro-x 600.It is a very nice option but its alot of work and if you replace the chain case and gears its going to cost even more money.I don't remember replacing my flywheel.I even installed a 660 kit on that sled and the perc worked great.

I installed the PERC kit on my 03 500, it took me about 6 hours as I recall. You have to pretty much strip the sled down, the 03 kit should contain wire harness, cdi, secondary clutch, left side controls, tach, oil pump. I thought it could not be done to a '02 (PERC wasn't offered until mid year '03). I guess I'm not really sure why you couldn't do it though. But maybe something different in the chaincase? Make sure the kit you buy is for the proper engine size. I also remember when I put mine back together there were some plug ins on the harness that were in different locations than the old harness, just something to look for as your doing it. 300 is a fair price, I paid 400 for mine a couple years ago.

raceinsnow --- I still have my stock chaincase and gears, so that wont be an issue, I could sell the reverse chaincase and linkage and gears to recoupe some of the cost,
I just dont know if I need to do the flywheel or not, thanks

Your sled in good shape? Sell it and the chain case
and add 200 to the 300/350 it will cost you to do this and buy
a perc sled. Done over and not cobbed up. Plus figure in that you won't get your money back if you sell in a year or two.

I installed a Perc kit on my '03 XC 600 last year - bought mine on ebay too. Not too bad if you are decent at working on stuff. The directions in the box are pretty good. Take your time and route the new wire harness to factory quality - otherwise it may come up short. You will have to put the secondary clutch together with new helix, spring, and rollers. You also have to loosen the gas tank and seat to plug in the new wiring to tail lights.

Once you have it done, you will love it - worth the $300.00 The roller secondary performs a little better going forward too.

It is a lot of work - helps to have a second pair of hands to assist.

sleds in excellent shape. Im going to sell the reverse chain case, and get the perc reverse, i think its worth it to me. the plan was to buy a newer switchback,(polaris rider- dont temp me) but do to the recent economy, Im going to keep this sled for a couple more years.
and I might have to buy a 3rd sled(another touring) next year so I can take all my kids out at the same time,

dont need perc anymore, fixed mechanical reverse, mounting ear on cover was bent, straightened it and had it welded, works good now.
