iPhone and snowmobiling

Just curious what peoples experiences are snowmobiling with an iPhone. How does it hold up in the cold, battery life, etc... I have heard it's good to turn 3G off to conserve the battery. Would it be good to put it in a pocket with a handwarmer?

I leave my iPod touch in my car during class sometimes throughout the winter. It is a little slow at first on very cold day, but works fine. I would just put it in an inside pocket so your body heat can keep it fairly warm.

I always put my phone in a plastic bag and then on an inside pocket. You don't have to worry about the 3G stuff in the keweenaw.. I go out for about 6 hours or so normally and the battery holds up fine. If I have a full charge, I still have over half battery when I get home...I do not put my phone in a storage compartment on my sled.

The cold will sap the battery quicker. Once it warms up it will be fine. I would not put a hand warmer in the same pocket as the phone. m8man said it best no 3G in the UP. The biggest problem is protection for the phone. I read an article on Snowgoer about a sturdy case made by Otterbox. www.otterbox.com A buddy has a similar case and it is very strong but will not keep out all water.

I have a iphone 3GS with the OtterBox cover. The cold does sap the battery a little bit, but I can listen to my music and talk on the phone while riding and it lasts about 6-7 hours. I keep it inside my outer pocket of my jacket. I just make sure I charge it at the local establishments we stop at.

I have been riding with an iPhone in my pocket since they came out and have never had any problems at all. I've learned that if I put it in my snowpants pocket, my leg keeps it fairly warm compared to if I put it in my jacket pocket. I wouldn't worry to much about it getting cold though, it never affected mine.

I keep mine in my coat pocket up top. I do not leave it on because I notice it looses battery very quick searching for signal. I turn it on when necessary to look at the map or club websites in case trails have been closed and need to reroute. When I have used it it has been great, I was shocked in some areas that I even had service. I do not use for music. I have my Ipod for that, I want to make sure if there is an emergency I have battery life, provided of course I have service.

I've never had 3G on my iPhone since I've owned in the U.P. Even with the new AT&T tower they put up, all iPhone users get is EDGE.

I don't have an Iphone but my phone (verizon) gets 3G most places and I'm on it all the time all around the western UP daily.
