Great news Paul!

And just in case folks did not realize, vbulletin is the software that this board uses.

The site doesn't need any configuration to work with the app, so yes it should work. The app was created by the creator of vbulletin so it any questions or problems should be directed to them or on their support forums. I do not have an iphone so I will not be able to assist in any why when using this new app. The app is currently in beta, so I am sure there will be problems with it.

Just to clarify a bit more.

Up until this point, you should have been able to view all the content of this site via a smart phone already. All the content is standard web based stuff and a smart phone is able to view that through it's web browser feature.

What this new app will do is make this discussion board available through your iphone.

So with this app and your iphone's web browser feature, you should be able to view all of the sites content. If the frames messes you up, then just go to: www.johndee.com/main.htm and you will have the home page without the frames setup and there are text links to all the other areas of the site at the bottom of the main page.

So has anyone tried to use it?

It looks like this is something that either must be installed on johndee.com, or is to be used in building an iPhone app for this web site!

From vBulletin Mobile FAQ:

Basics
What is it?
The product that will be available is an "app builder", it allows you to build an iPhone app for your vBulletin website.

Will it be free for using on my site?

In a word, no.

Ok, how much will it be?
Pricing will be announced soon.
Or did I miss something here?

FYI,

I have accessed and posted many times from my iphone and haven't seem to have any problems. I just go on the net and proceed as normal. I haven't had any issues and don't understand how this would make it easier for me.

Usually I go in my safari
Go to JD
Click Disc board
then off to the races

I hope it helps those in need.

Metoo also.
But instead of
Go to JD
Click Disc board
I just start directly at this bookmark, log in there, and click on the New Posts link.

I'm sure the mobile app will greatly simplify some of the more sophisticated/arcane aspects of the forum that are currently a bit of a pain in the "corporeal sitting-down apparatus" on an iPhone!

gotta figure this thing out. I've downloaded it and if you enter vbulletin you get on their discussion board. If I go to the net I see the normal stuff. I just have to scroll or make the screen bigger or smaller based on what I need to do.

thought i had it

It seems to me when I enter my vbulletin app and then i must create an account. I did so and it entere their dicussion board. so by chance I searched JD and no luck.. When I enter my browser, safari, it seems the same as it always had. I guess that's why I'm on the laptop now. No biggie just seems that I'm a dumb @$$ when it comes to tech stuff.

Good point Skylar, I was cell phone-less till a couple of months ago.

These things are annoying.

I'd lose it again but I still have to pay for it for a year and some yet.

FYI - Anyone using a iPhone.

To best view the site, do not bookmark the page when you first go to it. Log on to each page you want via safari, then go to "bookmarks>history & select the page again, then bookmark.
This will save the correct address string AND size it more correctly for the iPhone. Once in the newly sized screen, double tap in any frame and it will zoom to perfect size.

Most problems are due to E.S.O. (equipment smarter than operator). These things can do just about anything you want if you take the time to figure it out.

I've been reading about vBulletin. It looks like the app is a template for owners of vBulletin boards to easily migrate their forum board to the mobile platform.
