Iron Mountain area and Eastern UP riding. Or?

My fiancee and I would like to know if someone can tell us the trail conditions/snow in the eastern part of the UP. This will be her 1st time riding her own sled, and I want to be where the conditions are fair and traffic light. We usually lodge in Iron Mountain, but Dfattack mentioned low snow conditions. I was looking at Munising, Hiawatha, Brampton, and the Spaulding areas to loop. Safety is my concern while she gets familiar with her sled. Heck, I really don't care if we have to change destination.

So can everyone pitch in and let us know where some nice trails are in Wisconsin or the UP. We would appreciate it. We will be there the 11th thru the 14th of Feb. Thanks for all the help and support.

There isn't much snow in Iron Mountain right now. My brother lives over there and hasn't had his sled out yet. You might want to go further north. Maybe check the Ishpeming. Head towards Big Bay, Republic, Champion, etc.

less used trails if you head west off hy 41 at hy 64 to hy. 32....casino in Carter WI and other smaller hotels along hy. 32 from hy.64 and north.
My better half learned to love snowmobiling on these trails.
PM me if you want to ride. We will be up tonight.

I"m heading up next Tuesday and if it's not too late can give you an update. We received a little bit of snow but nothing much. I really don't know where to tell you to go that is light on traffic due to the conditions everywhere. In low snow years everyone pretty much goes where there is snow. When snow is good everywhere the Iron Mountain area is in fact lower traffic and a good place to start. Only suggestion is wherever you end up during the week will be the best. weekends will be busy. Sorry I can't be any more help.

you can check out the snow by checking out my cams on the northwoods cam network. choose the snowflake over Iron Mountain. It's fairly accurate to snow levels in the woods

Thanks for the updates everyone. dfattack, that's cool you have some cams on the trail to look at. Would you know if there is ample snow in the Eastern UP to ride?

Thanks, MAK

my cam is at my house and not actually on the trail and unfortunately I don't know what the snow conditions are in the eastern UP. I would keep asking here on JD. I'm sure there will be someone who has been out there and will know how the snow is.

Iron Mt area is thin but passable. Was through 2 from Norway to spread eagle Sunday. Trails improved on grade once back in blue ox trails.

I am heading out tomorrow morning. Leaving spread eagle and heading to Iron river on 2 then 15 north to L'Anse. Then back down 107 to 2 then back home to Spread Eagle. Not sure if that route helps you but I can leave a report tomorrow night and let you know.

My friend who grooms iron mountain trails said they are thin and some grassy areas on trail 5 but 2 east and west was ok.

I rode Iron County Michigan trails today (2 & 15) and were better than expected. Naturally 2 was thin from Just west of Iron Mountain. Was better further west of Iron River. Trail 15 north from 2 all the way to L'Anse was a nice surprise! good to excellent.

I spoke with my friend who grooms the Iron Mountain's club trails and he said the trails on the eastern end of their area are "excellent". So good news. Thought I would pass the info along. Hope it isn't too late.
