Can anyone let me know how trail 2 is east and west of Iron River? Snowtracks not updated since Dec 22nd.

We were north of trail 2 over New Year's Weekend, but the crossing at Gibbs City Rd looked fantastic both Friday and Monday. Saw a couple of sleds riding, seemed like plenty of snow. The trail south of Iron River down to Tipler looked thin but flat. You should be good if you want to ride the area. Still not sure on 15N past the 111 intersection. Wasn't groomed earlier in the week, and no definitive update from the club as of yesterday. http://www.msasnow.org/trail-reports/iron-range-trail-club/

Just rode it yesterday. 15 north off of 2 was good and sidnaw area awesome. 111 east off of 15 was poor until Amasa then 18 to republic was good. Went east on 2 to iron mountain...2 was good but thin and the bridge in iron mountain is CLOSEd... why am I yelling....because it's winter and now they start the bridge project?? Anyway stay away from that area period.

We are in calumet today and riding to the harbor. Big bay loop tomorrow.

Coming to Iron River you need to stay the Chicagoan lake inn....awesome people and nice comfortable rooms at a good price.

Hope that helps. Also stay off of 5 heading South out of rebulblic and avoid Crystal springs....brutal...no grooming?

Yesterday I was at the Sidnaw Station. Came in from Rousseau and the trails were excellent. Left Sidnaw on 15/8 and the grade became less and less snow as we approached Bruce's Crossing. Turned north on 3 towards Rockland and trails were outstanding once again.
Sorry, this is as close as I came to the area.

Thank you for your report. Did you happen to ride 15 west from the 15/111 intersection? up towards kenton?

also, thanks for the lodging suggestions...but I have a place by Florence and my bed is sooo much more comfortable :chuncky:

Just got back yesterday. A few rocks on 2 out of iron River. Getting a bit thin. 15 to sidnaw was awesome 7 miles past the 111 intersection. Everything North of that was good to excellent. Don't go east of iron River and crystal falls.

Thank you. Unfortunately I would be coming from Florence. However if we get the next two rounds of snow thru wednesday/thursday that is in the forecast things should be a little better.

Dropped yesterday morning at Iron River and headed west on trail 2. That trail was a 9.5 out of 10. A few rocks, but we are talking less than 1 per mile. Headed north on 107 - this trail, for the amount of snow we got was still good to great. Some of the corners a little icy and lacked snow, but no dirt. I would rate this an 8/10. Trail 8/15 was the same. Flat and fast. 9.5/10.

On another note, did see a groomer come out of 15. I heard this trail was in poor shape due to logging and reroute, but from what I could see - very short amount - looked good.

For the amount of snow, the trails were really great, better than I expected. One word of caution - we saw more deer in this trip than I can ever recall - on the grades we even slowed down. Also saw 2 grouse and 1 eagle. If you stop at the Sidnaw station, the ham and cheese sandwich was great. Usually I get the pizza, but this time tried a soup and sammi - not disappointed.

Agree yesterday deer all over the place on 2. Had 1 go to knees and whirl around back to the woods. Good thing or would have gone splatt on me. Never saw her /him and was a big one another reason to ride with protection.

Thank you SJB. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear and the today's snow should really help. We are riding on Friday so enough time for groomers to get out and smooth things out after the snow.
